He's pointing out that most 22" monitors can only display 720P. Most people think it can play cropped 1080 because the height is only 30pixels short, but they never take into consideration that the width is FAR too small.

Good thing most of us have video cards that can scaling and do image correction!
Once again...

Yep they can do scaling, but what I was trying to say is some think that their 1680 x 1050 monitors can display 1080p content, but 1080p content is 1920 x 1080. So if it is not scaled they're missing out on a lot of content that gets cut off.

HD is anything above standard definition (620x480, 740x480 Wide).

1920x1080 is 1080p. That is the highest definition in standard video use.

The sad part is those guys don't even work on commission... They truly believe they are telling the truth. When I was maybe 13 or 14 (6-7 years ago) I went into Best Buy with my dad to buy a simple 2 PC network kit to set one computer with internet connection sharing. There was a MOOSE working there, he said it wouldn't work and that we needed a router (much more expensive I think at the time). I didn't believe him. Sure enough, the 13 year old was smarter than the 30+ MOOSE.

Back on topic, I thought standard resolution was 640x480i?

I've talked to a lot of IDIOTS like this moose guy. From people who think "HD" is the term for the HD-DVD and that Blu-Ray is not "HD", to people who think HD is a type of TV and cannot be anything else.

HD only means resolution.

720 x 480 - Standard Definition (What traditional TVs are)

(Could also be 704x480, 740x480, or 640x480.)

High Definition (HD) - 1280 x 720 (Known as 720p, 720 Horizontal Lines @ 30 progressive frames per second)
High Definition (HD) - 1920 x 1080 (Known as 1080i/p, 1080 Horizontal Lines @ 30 Progressive/ 60 Interlaced frames per second respectively)
Extreme Definition (XD) - 2560 x 1440
Super High Definition (SHD) - 3840 x 2048
Ultra High Definition (UHD) - 7680 x 4320 (18 min - 3.5TB)

Now if this "Moose" guy knows anything maybe he was referring to HDCP? (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). Only HDCP devices may decrypt HDCP signals. But nowadays most high resolution monitors with inputs and video cards have HDCP decrypting capabilities.

Thankyou Criswell. I understand now.

Also, as a minor FYI... many people do not seem to realise that broadcast HD is only at 720 (due to bandwidth, at least in the UK)... one can only benefit from 1080p with a bluray or HD drive
