Okay, so I have a friend in my CSS clan that is building a new rig for cheap so I told him I could sell him my x1900xtx w/ VF900 for 100 bucks because I'm looking to get a new card.

So, my budget is under $250 and I am trying to decide between the HD3870, the 8800GT 512mb, and the 9600GT (mainly between the 8800 and 9600). I haven't seen a lot of benchmarks on the 9600GT but from what I've seen it's fairly close to the 8800GT and above the 3870 in COD4. Right now I play mostly CS:S and COD4 and I'm trying to get a worthwhile upgrade in performance in COD4 from my x1900, so which card do you think I should get?

if you can afford it i would go with the 8800GT it will be worth it in the long run. That card has been best bang for your buck for a while now. But i guess 9600 will be close but not as good.

At first I thought the first option was the 8800GTS 512mb card. If you can manage an extra $10 you can get the EVGA GTS G92 card for $260 on newegg.com after mail in rebate. The GTS has on some games performed better than the GTX. Otherwise, I would go with the GT card. Very inexpensive compared the performance that you get.

Here is a link to the GTS card on newegg...

I am debating the same thing right now, except I will be stepping up my
8600GT. I am leaning more towards the 9600GT as it is close to the 8800GT. If price is no issue go for the 8800GT.

Here is a nice review

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2265570,00.asp

Here's a better review comparing 3 different 9600GT's OC to 8800GT, 3850, 3870, and 9600GT in SLI

The lower price for GTX is $340 after MIR. Other than GTX, to maxi your $250 budget, G92 8800GTS gets my vote. So, I would go for $260 GTS. It has better performance than GT and close to GTX, much cooler and higher OC potential. 8800GT price drops below $200, it is the best for the money at this point.

Evga 8800GT $199.

Yeah but rebates take forever I think I'd rather save $60 and get the MSI GT anyways cause it has a good cooler and is already OC'd. $190 for a 3870 is tempting though...
