[GS] Guild Wars: Over 5 Million Served

NCSoft announced on Wednesday that ArenaNet's Guild Wars has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide, reaching this major milestone in less than three years. The game franchise includes three standalone episodes including the original game, Guild Wars: Factions which was released in April of 2005. Then came The expansion Guild Wars: Nightfall about a year later and more recently Guild Wars: Eye of the North.

Guild Wars is an MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) that allows players to immerse themselves in a rich fantasy world where they acquire and perfect skills, and build personalized characters. The game allows players to join their friends in the worlds to play together and complete quests and earn rich rewards. The difference between Guild Wars and most other MMORPGs on the market is that Guild Wars does not charge a monthly fee to play. Once a player buys the game, online play has no added cost.

Co-founder of ArenaNet, Mike O'Brien commented that "reaching the million mark is extremely gratifying for us at ArenaNet because it shows the hard work and dedication we put into our games has resonated with the fans." O'Brien said that they are committed to supporting Guild Wars players and are extremely excited to work on the game's evolution and that it has a future that is just as bright as its past.

I believe that Guild Wars: Prophecies was the first, and Factions was the second...

Just to clarify, this is games sold, not actual accounts. Most players have boughten one or more campaigns thus there maybe 1 million accounts tops.

I didn't know guildwars was that popular. Are they possibly including the sales of each expansion pack into this figure?

I heard somewhere that theres 2.8 million accounts...
I'm with the rest of you in saying that it was good at first, but then they felt the need to nerf farming in some areas. I liked it when I was playing with other human players, but not with the henchmen. I only bought the first one and now it would be impossible to catch up with the three expansions out now.

Maybe Guild Wars 2 will deserve another look.
Yeah, I think I'm about done with the first guildwars...

But I will give GW2 a go. It definately wasn't a bad game... I got my moneys worth, thats for sure. It's just not something that can be played for months and months at a time.
