what should I get xp-32 bit or vista-64 bit

Hey guys, I just found this site and I need some help. I'm finally going to build my computer. This computer is for gaming but I did want to run autocad 04 on it, but it will not work with XP-64 bit that I can find. it only works on xp-32 bit. And it will not work with vista at all.

To get the most out of my new computer I should run

XP -64 bit or should I get Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium. I know vista has directx 10.0 and xp dose not.

I know I will not see 4 ram if I run 32 bit. I have to run 64 bit to see all 4 ram.

I just found out about this. I can run vista as my os and use virtual pc console to run xp-32 bit. Is this true?

here is the spec on the computer. I did want some body to check it over and see if I'm building the right one and getting the right parts but I can't find on the forum where to post my whole set up? Where do I post it? Sorry guys newbe

Well, if your CPU is a 32bit(it is) then you should run XP32. Right guys? Can you even run xp64 with the cpu? LOL I guess I really just asked questions instead of answering yours.

Ah the age-old (ok, maybe not) question of 32-bit or 34-bit OS. The short is, if your rig can handle it, and you don't mind dealing with 64-bit drivers (not much of a problem anymore), then by all means go 64-bit.
Your computer will certainly be handle it. Personally, I will tell you to dual-boot, which is where you have XP and Vista on the same machine. That way, if you need a program that does not like to run on Vista (like AutoCAD), you can still use it.
Avoid XP-64 like the Black Plague. It is nothing but trouble.
As a side note, you can post your specs under User CP>Add System at the top of the page.
And GNU/Linux is the way of the future, but I won't get into that.

Isnt there an update you can download for Autocad? Or just upgrade it to the newest one. You might as well since your upgrading your computer.

Vista 64 hands down. XP 64 doesnt even compare. Ive used them all. If you have 2+ gigs of RAM with Vista 64, it blows everything away. Everything works fine for me.

About Autocad, i know 3D Studio Max had a patch for Vista, AutoCad might be the same. Although the newer versions should work fine as is.

Thanks guys

So I'll run vista 64 bit 99% of the time and switch to xp-32 bit when I need to use autocad or play an old games.

There is know downloads for cad 04 with vista. The only cad that works with vista is 08. I got my 04 cad from work so you know

I'm use cad civil 05 and I'm starting to use 08 at work.

How old are your games? I've played some really legacy stuff on x64 with no problems.

Personally, considering Vista's hunger for RAM, I think it was irresponsible of MS to release a 32-bit version to begin with. Anyone without a 64-bit processor should probably not be considering ANY version of Vista.
