........but for 216 more I can have this shipped and ready to go.

Here

It's looking pretty attractive.

And if I may ask about RAID. For best backup security is RAID 1 the setup? I'll have lots of digital photography images to save.

RAID 1 only protects against failure of the HD's, and is more relevant to servers where the HD's are getting hammered 24/7, any software related issues like virus damage, file corruption, operator error deletes etc simply get copied over to the mirrored discs.

A regular and methodical backup system to an external device is the best option (if your PC goes up in smoke hopefully your backup will be somewhere else) I use a USB External HD and also make monthly copies of important stuff to DVD

Thats a good point... even with RAID 1 there is still some risk of failure, like if your PSU blows, it could take out both your drives, but wouldnt take out an external drive.

Still mulling it though. Is New egg the best place to get Vista 64?
Dual WAN is more geared for either

#1. If you had 2 ISP connections that you could bridge
or
#2. If you were on a LAN & you wanted your transfer speeds to be twice as fast if they were limited by the network's choice of cabling.

Put it this way, you could get a board that's $75 cheaper & have a way to do what you want in a better manner ... btw, a router's soul function is connect many PCs, so you won't "disturb" it unless it only has 1 LAN port

edit: Oh yeah, on Vista, it's about a horse a piece where you choose to buy it, so go ahead & pull the trigger on purchasing it from NewEgg if you want.

Re: Video Cards.... Get yourself at least a 8800GTS(G92v).. It will help rendering a ton!

Re: Backup... Do a smaller RAID setup (ie. 2 Seagate 7200.10 Barricudas 250GB drives in RAID0) and get an external for your backup purposes. This is mainly for less fuss for you. Check the Deal section here for the 750GB Samsung drive for $140

Re: $216 more for pcusa.... nope, use NewEgg for the customer service that goes along with the savings. That $216 you'll save could be put to better use.

Thanks Guys,
I'm enjoying being brought back up to speed whilst I await my tax returns.

Question. What happened to ASUS. When I was putting my current rig together they were all the rave.

Too Chicken I Am

I'm just not up to speed enough to configure after assembly. Also trying to figure out if it's BIOS settings, MB jumpers, or hardware defects will take me out hard.
I have got great stuff config-wise from you guys and the PCUSA thing is around $200.00 more to have him (or her) assemble, test, weed out the bad stuff and ship. I can come in behind him and check it for performance.
I'll be price checking against PCUSA type services now.

Before this post I was in the dark about many things. I tell ya. If one wanted me to build a system, sit there and load and configure it all, $200.00 would be cheap.
I hope you guys stay subscribed. Ill post the end results with pictures.

OK. I have to ask.
I do want to ponder making it myself.
Without over clocking, just making sure it boots and loads Vista 64bit clean, and the Bus, RAM and HDD all run at the correct speeds, how close will it be to assemble and play? I am very mechanical and can do this configuration and setup wise but know enough to respect the unknown.

I'll list my new hardware items below (now under 1k before shipping) minus the Optical drive, PSU (500w) and case. I'll be in no hurry, I have a notebook to handle anything while it's being made.
  • ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core
  • G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit
  • EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600GT 256MB
  • Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s HDD
