post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
diffrence between 7200.10 and 7200.11 is next to nothing right?

seems that the 10 has a 16mb cache and the 11, 32?

because i want to buy a extra hd 500gb but the 7200.10 is some what cheaper

I had the impression that the early .11's were shipping with crappy firmware.

Yeah. You are right, the .11 has bigger cache compared to the .10 (i.e. of 32MB vs 16MB Cache) which if all things are equal it should increase performance.

Don't forget the sound, the 11th generation drives are a fair amount quieter.

Not all of them. There were some that the 32MB cache was not read even if you update the firmware.

The following Barracuda 7200.11 models have been impacted:

* ST3500320AS PN 9BX154-302 with firmware code SD04 or SD14
* ST3750330AS PN 9BX156-302 with firmware code SD04 or SD14
* ST31000340AS PN 9BX158-302 with firmware code SD04 or SD14

Cache size does not matter to a desktop PC once you hit 16MB.
