Ease my ballistix concerns....

Thread Starter
Alright so I just bit the bullet and bought myself my first pair of Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 to replace my XMS2. I am a little bit concerned though with all the posts I see about dying Ballistix. I am hoping that these will reach my desired 1090MHz with 5-5-5-12 at less than 2.2v, what do you think my chances are? As well what can I do to keep these alive for a good long time? I will already be using a Delta 90mm fan to keep PLENTY of air running over them.

ps-the IC list in my sig states they are D9GCT or (more likely) D9GMh.

Well, I assume you have 800's? That is a good OC for less than rated voltage for any RAM. Since I am assuming you have the newer single sided IC's, I would say that is going to push it. I have a set of both, (older double sided and newer single sided). I ran the older ones at 1095, 5-5-5-15, 2.3v. Granted, I never extensively tested at 2.2v or less, they were perfectly fine at 2.3v. I have yet to have a chance to test the new style as I have been without a gfx card for a few weeks. From what I have seen, the newer single sided sticks do not OC as well as the older ones. I would say there is a 50/50 chance of running them at that speed.

Thats also what a lifetime warranty if for.

Good price,

To ease your concern just realize the should do fine and if they dont crucial has a excellent customer service and rma department so you should very easily get them replaced if they do not work well or die.

I got those at the same deal. Even if they are not as ghood as the older version, the RAM is still good and that is indeed a great price.

i've got a set of 1066mhz tracers and they seem kinda buggy. they run fine for days and then out of the blue, no post! i have to take all but one stick out to get the machine to boot. i have tested all 4 sticks and they all pass with flying colors. i've tried them in a few different machines now and they do the same thing.

Memory if always wierd.

Cant they just make them LIKE CPUS.

CPUS hardly ever die.

Ive had my 1066 rams run up to 1125 mhz on 2.1 volts and 1080 with only 2.05 volts witch there currently at now,I have an old dominator mem cooler on um and they have been fine for 5 months,The only time they get hot is when I bench. As lomg as you dont go over 2.2 you will be fine,Always look for the highest clock with the least amount of voltage

I had 4x1Gb Ballistix 800s running at 1200 with stock voltage and 5-5-5-15 timings. But just like CPUs, some OC better then others.
