[cnet]AMD pays for IBM know-how in battle with Intel - Page 3

Its not pathetic ... Is it pathetic that IBM, Toshiba and Sony developed the cell processor? I don't think so! Is it pathetic that most car industries use toyota electronics because they are better?

This is a good sign, and hopefully AMD can get some insight on the cell (provided toshiba and sony agree) and make a competitive CPU so we can get even lower prices!

Intel spends about $6 billion per year on R&D, AMD about one-sixth of this. On the manufacturing front it's even more of a mismatch. For the 45nm generation of chips alone, Intel plans to eventually have four plants making 45nm processors--which Intel is currently manufacturing commercially. AMD doesn't even have 45nm out the door yet (commercially)
That's why...

Let me just say that AMD very much had a chance to become an industry heavyweight. But due to a series of poor business decisions which led to purchase of ATI and ultimately preventing a timely answer to Core 2, AMD has largely fallen behind.

I know I'm being blunt, but AMD had the chance to become something great and they completely blew it.

Good for AMD, and it is pathetic we have fanboys in this industry now. As long as its not as bad the fanboys trolling Gametrailers site for Sony/Xbox face offs

But im still AMD owner, always will be. I know Intel have at the moment the best chips out there, but i will stick with AMD cause i see them as part of me and i will keep my faith in them. I know as soon as i move to intel , AMD will do something that will make me switch back and ill waste money.

I hope things progress from here, hate being in this position atm, positive progress is good future ahead.

Hey I promoted Intel there, but my rigs are half and half... I use my media center mainly, and it is AMD as for sony/xbox, it is not an issue now that blu-ray won

and so continues the epic battle between intel and AMD....... who will win? find out never on no rendition of...... fanboy wars. honestly tho, i hope AMD can pull out of this slump. they did make some bad descisions, but they also made good descisions.

i remember when they were just a second rate CPU company. along came athlon they were a serious competitor. they took the crown for a while with athlon64 and X2. now intel seems to have the one up. i will continue my upgrade path with whatever is the best..... be it AMD or intel.

Hehe, true. I dont know, if i ever went Intel rig i would just feel dirty but the performance difference is tempting but i just stick this out and i know i will be rewarded

True on console note, but i play both 360 and ps3 so nothing bothers me . I just need a uber tv.

I have another rig but I havnt actually stated in my profile, maybe i should. Older system. Another AMD/ATI machine for my younger sister and family work lol. AMD 5000x2 on old AS rock board, ATI 1650 Raedon. Its ok lol.

Oh wait, i have totally flawed myself. My laptop is Intel but that doesnt count

Lol, I know exactly what you mean man, If I ever switched to intel I would feel like my computer was weak, or like there was something missing.

Plus, I'm working towards a Tri-Fire platform, and upgrading my pieces one at a time, and its gonna dominate tri-sli

Pathetic is what Intel did to AMD by resorting to fraudulent business practices and threats to its customers if they bought AMD products.

They did fall behind in the cpu world true, for now, but they do have great GPUs now which are wonderful .
