I'm not inferring that you pirated the game or anything, Higgins, but your quote just struck me as funny after all the anti-DRM reading I've done today.

Seems to me that the best method is to use a Steam-like system and go ban happy on the [expletive deleted] that try to pirate. I'm all for DRM as long as it is properly implemented. Ironically, the only big enforcement of any kind that IW seemed to put in CoD4 was Punkbuster which is preventing quite a few legitimate players from playing. Hopefully their next title will be released exclusively on Steam instead of appearing a few months later when it's too late to stop the pirating.
Well im against restrictive DRM such as the craptastic MP3 DRM that is actually promoting piracy. I find game copy protection to do the opposite (depending on how it's implemented) such as locking the CD-key to an account, or to a steam account. I think thats the best way around piracy.. i mean if you bought the game you will have your CD key to enter when you install, and if you lost it than you need to do a little cleaning. Punkbuster is a bit lackluster in some games, and kicks legit players (havent had a problem in CoD4 yet) bug BF2's PB was really good for me atleast.

In the end it depends on the game, but i think games need to have some sort of account or they will get pirated like crazy.

OMG not this again

Okay people lets gets the facts straight...

1. Piracy exist in every single platform ever made including the really old ones. Go to India or Malaysia see how many people actually buy the game.

2. The comments made by this idiot sounds very lame. Most likely he has been instructed by his superiors to say such nonsense and illogical things.

3. People here this sort of crap(including publishers) because a) they get more money out of porting games to consoles(well who knows those figures could lie ). Blaming the poor sales due to piracy is simply a scapegoat.

Im pretty sure Activison and its patches have nothing to do with PB. PB releases its own updates for the games that use it. So technically you cant blame Activison for having PB kick you.

??? what, why? the money is there in the console market, but i know for a fact that neither epic nor infinity ward will abandon the PC genre. They just know where most of their paying customers are at. Just remember.. the guys at IW and Epic are pc gamers themselves. They grew up gaming on PCs and they've always said that their heart lies with PC gaming so they dont deserve to be on your '**** list'. IW have made some of the best FPS games of the last decade, and so have Epic. Infact including valve these are my favourite developers. So dont knock them for what is undeniably the truth. They arent going to abandon anyone.

The developer has every right to be mad at the pirating. Whether you admit it or not, pirating causes a loss in sales. Period. End of discussion. It's a fact of life. You breathe oxygen, and pirating dents sales. Deal with it. The extent to which the game is pirated is not the major issue, but simply the fact that someone is evil enough to pirate in the first place, screwing over the rest of us who do things the right way.

Pirating is illegal because it is thievery. There is no way anyone can justify pirating games when legitmate copies are available for purchase. No way whatsoever. Just like downloading anything that you should have paid for, it is illegal. It is a crime. It belongs on your criminal record if you do it.

The only way to make this situation better is not to pirate. By pirating you make the situation worse, and anyone who tries to justify pirating should take a look at their own lives because they obviously have a skewed sense of morality that needs to be changed.

If you pirate, you have no right to complain about DRM issues. In fact, complaining about something you are causing just makes you stupid and people like you disgust me.

You mean the publisher has every right ? The dev gets paid by the publisher =p

They are both affected. The publisher could squeeze the developer's payout to keep their profit margin, for example.

Problem solved for multiplayer piracy.
That's kind of hard. I can imagine them setting a bunch of random numbers, only to run out. Sucks for the people who don't have teh internetz... Cracks work on guessing numbers that the game uses for the keys. All it takes is some math...

Huh? They are no more likely to run out of CD keys using his method than they do now if the keys are the same length.
