xigmatek 1283 fix the loose fins...

Thread Starter
well i recieved mine today and had the top 2 fins basically fall off.. so yes this may be a quality issue hard to say..

i have fixed them both and now i cant even pull them off of there.. ill post some pics as soon as i get home since i dont have a cam here

the fins metal is so thin and so soft they can be easily fixed. according to daniel they are only press fitted on there in the first place.

take the fins that have come loose and sit them back on top of the cooler look to see which holes the widest part of the heat tubes comes through not the pointed ones. using a very small pair of needle nose pliers and a great bit of gentleness go around the holes... the flange that sticks upward where the larger part of the tubes comes through and in maybe four or five rotations give them just a tiny squeeze so they are not totally round anymore to dimple them. they should now have a few almost like dimples in them be careful to just barely dimple the holes though so you can replace them afterwards.

place the fin back onto the cooler pipes and gently press down a bit at a time going around the cooler working each hole so you are pressing them down at the same level all the way around the cooler. keep going till they sit flush with the row below them. and proceed to the next one.

you will not even see the dimples you made as the metal is so soft it will flatten the hole back out all the way around once you press them back on.

mine are on really tight now and i can literally hang onto the top fin and move the whole cooler up and down and its not coming back off unless a great amount of pressure is applied. ill bend the fin before it comes back off..

ill post up pics later hope this helps out the guys that lost a few fins...

Wait, what..you mean they just fell off impossible, they just don't fall off.
Were you rough with it, use a screwdriver in a prying motion.
They don't just fall off, uh uh no way.
So let me get this straight, 3 of us on OCN have the Xigmatek S1283 and we've all had fins fall of.
I call Conspiracy

On a more serious note.. Still haven't tested mine, having technical difficulties ATM.

oh yeah they did.. one was basically off on one side right out of the box..

while inspecting it it simply came right off..once that one came off i turned it over to check out the base and the second one HONEST TO GOD.. just fell on the floor.. it just slid right off..i was pretty shocked especially after not totally believing the others saying they just fell off.. yeah i know..

i took a bunch of pics (after reapiring it of course i didnt even think to grab the camera when they cam eoff i was kinda pissed at the time) showing what i mean on how to fix the issue but im having issues with my isp and cant upload them right now ill get em up as soon as i can

so what is the reason you can think of about the fin fell off?

"i have fixed them both and now i cant even pull them off of there.. "
How did you fix it?
Grunion you still ignoring all the possibility but solely blame it on
the manufacture? 3 on ocn have this problem? what about thousands that bought from newegg?
Is weird that you haven't get your answer yet, but I will call them like you said, seems like others have gotten response already.

Thousands

Get over it, they're cheap for a reason

Give me a break poohball. The manufacturer should have some sort of quality control to test the durability of their products. You'd have to be a fool to not check the quality of your product you are selling.

lol man you need to just stop with the whole thing...

the top most fin was actually off the cooler basically when i opened the box, all i had to do was turn it upside down and it would have fallen right off yes it was just sitting on the cooler.

the second fin fell off with just the brush of a finger nothing more. i AM VERY VERY CAREFUL with my things and prob the most (yes im going to use this word) anal retentive person bordering on ocd you will meet. im not ocd but about as close as you can get to it without being that way..

i will upload my "fix" to another site i cant get photobucket to work right now for some reason.. i sent them a email..

and yes i have daniel's direct email and ive sent him emails to that addy

shall i post it here????

maybe they need to check their blocked mail folder i cant say for sure but i have sent 3 emails now.. and im about to call them

i own 2 business' and im VERY busy most of the time.. i have little "phone" time as most of my day i am dealing with customers so i have yet had a chance to actually call him

sorry to sound rude but i know its only a 27$ cooler.. hence the reason i fixed the fins myself instead of sending it back .. it a heck of a 27$ cooler at that i know they work well im not at all knocking this cooler, im simply saying yes they do in fact need better quality control apparently..

man come down off the horse with this cooler its a cpu cooler.. you stated your opinions many many times about what grunion and others said.. not going to change the fact that yes in fact the fins have a tendency to fall off..

mine are not falling off now and for even better measure i actually applied a small bit of thermal epoxy even just over the edges of the holes in the top fin to make sure of it...

Fine by me...but may be you can ask Xigmatek and see how the response? I am just throwing in whats the possibility, I am not saying you break it or Grunion break it. Don't forget your friendly ups/fedex driver could have dropped it too.

Anyway, hope you like it.
