e6750 litterally wont OC

Thread Starter
I had my e6750 @ 3.5Ghz with a vcore of about 1.44(load) i wanted to see if i could reach 3.6 and in the process of testing things, my system crashed during the boot process. now in my bios it says i have my FSB speed at 440 and my multiplier at 8x, but when i boot up cpuz is saying its running at 2.66ghz... my super pi timings have increased significantly also.

whats going on? is it my mobo?

Thats normal. When your system crashed it might have reset the settings. It sounds like the C1E and Speedstep settings are enabled, which would set your multi to 6x when at idle. That is where CPU-Z is getting 2.6GHz 440x6. If your system is stable you can leave these options enabled, and it will conserve power when your PC is idle.

The reason Superpi might be slow is because it takes a split second for your PC to react and set the multi back up to 8.

Try resetting the BIOS. It was posted in another thread for a different mobo, but the OP was having a similar problem. His Speedstep was disabled, but he was still getting a lower multi than he set. Reset the CMOS a couple of times or take out the battery hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and let it sit overnight, without the battery in. Go back tomorrow and try again.
