680I trouble

Thread Starter
Well im not going to lie, i screwed up good here. I was playing with my tuniq tower and actually cutting out manual fan controller so that it was straight to the mobo. Well after i got done i fired up the system to see if everything would work and sure enough it did. But while playing with it seeing where i could hide the wires, i touched an open wire to my case and fried my cpu fan controller on the mobo.

I have the CPU pluged into the system fan controller and the fan works but it dosnt register any speeds so i must have also blown the sensor in the fan as well?

What should I do, or what can i do. Its the system in the sig.

Thanks for any help, and no need to bash me i already know what a dumb ass that i am.

Order a new 120mm fan, its easy to remove the Tuniq fan housing as theres only four Phillips screws. Pop them out and remove the fan and replace with a new one. If you didn't get the LED version nows your chance. Make sure when you install the new one to check that your airflow is correct.

Well I didn't want to say that the controller may be fried as that is worse case scenario but if you have another working fan maybe try plug it in the cpu fan input to test and see if that one reads the fan speed in your bios. I was thinking maybe the fan sensor on the fan itself may have been roasted when you removed the speed controller??

Im not sure, but the fan it self does work on the system fan hookup still dosent register for speed but it does run and light up... so i assume the cpu fan hook up is fried since the fan still works on other ports... i will have to try another fan on the board to see if it registers speed and works..

Buy a fan controller, and hook up all of your fans to that. There's lots with LCD screens that let you monitor the fans' RPM. If you fried your fan controller, there's not much that can be done.

You can always try to RMA the board, I'm sure that'll work.
