Problem with my new DS3L-powered build...

Thread Starter
Ok, so i got it built and everything, just fine, press the power button and the LEDs come on, CPU fan spins, all case fans spin, RAM LEDs come on, everything appears to be running, but...there's nothing on the monitor, just an "Input Not Found" screen. It goes to standby. No POST, no beeps, no nothing but noise.

Any ideas? It's an XFX 8800GT powering the graphics..

Have you double checked that all power connections are made and solid? Try reseating the GPU as well.

I had that happen once. It turned out to be a bad PCIe slot on the mobo. I doubt this is your problem though. Do like Jules said and check all your connections.

I tried reseating the graphics card, nothing.

I guess maybe i'll go around and chekc power again, i did it already but it can't hurt.
I guess i hadn't thought about the bad PCI-E slot...maybe i'll have to look into that.

Yea, can't hurt to check power cables again. You don't happen to have anothet gfx card to try do you?? If so I would try that or if you have another rig to try the 8800GT in. So at least that could be eliminated from being a problem.

Not sure where things are at for you but it might be worth clearing the bios as well, I know that things should be at default as a new board but once again it will atleast eliminate a possiblity if nothing else.

If you have a spare card around then follow Rx7's advice for sure and see what it does for ya. Let us know how things are going.

Ok, i'm starting to think it is the motherboard. I pulled the RAM out, put it in another slot set, and no difference. I pulled it out and tried to boot, but it did the same as it did with it in. No beeps or anything, like it should, right?

I didn't pull the CPU and my Nirvana, but i guess i will need to, since it looks like i'm gonna have to RMA my DS3L.

Like i said, i don't have another GPU around, only an IGP in this.

Good idea on clearing the CMOS, but i'm not sure how to do that..that battery was a **** to get to and pull, is there another way?

By the way, you guys are a ton more helpful than the troll-infested PC Hardware board over on GameFAQS..i'm a regular there, but it's FULL of trolls nowadays.

The regular way to clear the CMOS is to short the jumper. It is located slightly below where the back part of the graphics card would be (as you're looking down at the board, to the right and slightly lower than the PCI-E x 16 port. Short this with a flat tip screwdriver or other object for about 3 seconds to make sure it has sufficient contact. Doing this will clear the CMOS. This has the same effect has removing the battery for an extended period of time (~1 minute), but is much quicker to do.

As far as the beeps go... I believe a single beep is indicative of a proper boot, I'm not sure what no beeps means... The speaker is connected wrong? lol...

If there's any way you can test the functionality of the video card (pop it in another rig), that would be a good idea before RMA'ing the mother board. I know I would prefer to exchange them than the mobo itself.

Ok, i'll try that, but does the comp have to be on or off?
And what speaker? I thought that was built in...

I do'nt know anyone really that would let me put my 8800 in their rig, besides my cousin who lives 6 hours away..since this has no PCI-E slot, just PCI.
