This is true.

There are a couple of value gems out there if you don't need fancy features.

My old chaintech AV-710 sounded incredible for a $27 card using the high quality wolfson DAC on on the rear out. Was limited to stereo in that mode though, and the inputs were all junk.

The live was a great card...by the standards of 1998.

Just got the card installed... the only driver I could find for XP x64 was a beta version. Everything working great though...

My Chimaira, All That Remains, Shadows Fall sound great so far.
Rock on!

Glad to hear everythings alright.

It's incredible that they have SBL'1998 drivers for x64 and you installed with no problems

Do you guys think I'm better off using a Sound Blaster 16 or Realtek 650?

I fkn love SoundBlaster 16! Thats the card i used most with my ancient music trackers
on my MONSTER: Pentium 233Mhz 16RAM setup!

Anyway..
You should know that Sound Blaster 16 was introduced back in 1992 so the onboard R-ALC650 will have better codecs and ofcourse better compatability.
I know there are new SB16 Drivers around, im not sure what they do though.

The SB16 cards also had some sort of MIDI playback problems, this mostly on the newer versions on the DSP (Digital Sound Processor) this is not good if you are working with music or midi composing.
If you have the Sound Blaster 16 Value Edition i would go with the Realtek no questions asked.. To be really honest, SB16 is so old.. i would probly go with the Realtek Onboard anyway, it's just feels more right.

There was also a SB16 WavEffects released in 97, you sure you dont have that? Again, you should be aware that the Onboards use CPU.

Also, Justice <3

Yeah I tested the difference between the two and my onboard sounded a lot better but lags whenever I game.
