I know that HD 3870 runs as crossfire
on motherboard like striker II with nvidia chipset, will the hd 3870x2 only work like half a card? like 512mb from core 1 is showing, core 2 is not

I would've thought that since the 3870x2 is 2 cores on one card, it'd be in Crossfire mode to utilize both "cards", and I highly doubt you can get crossfire on a SLI board by legit means. I believe I read in a review of a model (brand) of that card, you could enable or disable crossfire. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think it would only detect 1 core, and not both.

All of the crossfire mechanics is done on the card itself. It does not require a crossfire capable chipset to run standalone.
