Overclocking -AMDX2 3800+

Thread Starter
1st I want to say hi to all and say thank you before hand. I have read over the past 3 days alot of information, but I feel I'm missing the point.

I have a 64 X2 3800+ w/ Antec CPU Cooler from circuit city. I have a DFI Lan Party Nforce4 Ultra-D with SLI mod. I have a CoolMax 650 modular and 2 256mb pci-e 8600GT's. My memory is 1GB (512x2)DDR400 Geil Golden Dragon (1T 2-3-3-6 Default)

I have tried the following:
Vcore - 1.4
FSB - 240
Mutiplier - 10x
HTT - x4
Left everything else default.

I've even tried this on Memory at 1:1 and set the DRAM Voltage to 2.7. and the results were as follows

The system posts then while starting windows (before Windows logo) it crashes and restarts. I set it back to default, and ran memtest86 and after 2 hours and 5 passes test (all 8 tests each) I received no errors.

So the memory is fine and the timings are already nice, and I followed the guide, so I'm figuring I'm not understanding the settings between the memory and the CPU changes. I really like the timings and was told this is pretty good memory. In fact I have another 1GB coming Saturday.

Can someone point me to where I'm going wrong. Frontlines Fuel of War is calling me, and soon Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will be out.

thanks for the reply. I will lower the HT now and check it out.

thanks again

I tried lowering the HT (my board says - LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio) but it does the same thing. Starts and after post it hangs and restarts.

Ok, Back to square 1.
I fixed my issue by doing the following:

Vcore - 1.4
FSB - 240
Mutiplier - 10x
HTT - x4

I also set the memory timings as 2.5-3-3-6, FSB = 166Mhz and set the force 1T option to Disable in the Bios and it all works fine....

Now I added more memory: 2x512MB Geil PC3200 (Blue Heatsinks) 2.5-4-4-8.
I guess since it has a different latency it causes the reboots before the Windows Logo. I haven't been able to get 1T timings and I haven't been able to get 1:1 (200Mhz FSB) settings. Any help will be appreciated.

Update:

I have found the most stable settings I could. I am hoping I can get a few tips (configs) to move some options up...

FSB Freq....................240Mhz
LDT/FSB Freq Ratio......x4
CPU/FSB Freq Ratio......x10
PCI eXpress Freq.........100Mhz

CPU Vid Control...........1.425v
LDT Voltage Control.....1.20v
Chip Set Voltage.........1.50v
DRAM Voltage.............2.60v

DRAM Freq Set............166Mhz (5/6)
Command Per Clock......Enable (1T)
CAS.........2-3-3-6

Memtest shows no errors 3 complete passes. Memtest (test #5 showed no errors)

Any aid/help to give alittle boost would be greatly appreciated.

your memory timings are way tight, loosen them and you should see a much better OC. try 4-4-4-12-2t and try upping the fsb again

Cool, I will do that now... I thought memory timings were better than CPU speed.
My memory is default at 1T 2-3-3-6 (DDR400). I will up those now and increase the CPU FSB to 250.

Question? - Should I drop the DRAM core voltage back to 2.50 (default) and change the memory or do I need to leave it where it is?

Also, should I goto HT=x4 (will equal a link of 1000Mhz @ 250FSB- I though it was better under 100).

ok, so leave everything the same just loosen the timings...

Gotcha

Thank You much.

EDIT:
I Get beeping, but no posting. The only thing I changed was the timings as you stated and went up to 250FSB and can no longer boot
