Audio Card For Music Production

Thread Starter
I make music using Reason , Fruityloops , Recycle , and i want to get into Protools. I am not that savvy about audio cards. I was wondering what card would be the best for around 100-150$ . They have a very high sample rate for good quality and to be able to have low latency MIDI also, it has to have 1/8 driver input and output for audio any help with this would be appreciated .

I've heard this card is top notch for production as far as those programs and sound quality are concerned.

If you plan on getting ProTools then a sound card means nothing.
A ProTools LE system will give you an Mbox (an external souncard/DAC with microphone input) ProTools will only output to the Mbox and not thro a sound card.

ProTools does not work with 64bit Vista yet.

ProTools requires external hardware.
LE systems:
LE is the higher-end of the budget line.
Digi001 uses a rack-mounted unit that connects to the computer through a cable to a PCI card.
Digi002 is a dual rack-space unit, also available as a tabletop unit, which uses Firewire.
Digi003 is a dual rack-space unit, also available as a tabletop unit, also using Firewire.
M-Powered:
M-Powered is the lower budget line, backed by M-Audio. I won't get into the different models, as there are a lot of them.

You COULD get an M powered ProTools but the software itself is $300. Then you need to get an M-audio card or interface that's $200-infinity.

It's cheaper to get an Mbox Mini with ProTools LE for $345
