E2160 single or double core? - Page 3

Have you attempted to upgrade the BIOS.
Also, do you have a different mobo you could try the cpu in?

Yep updated the Bios to the latest version. I have other mobos but none to take this chip :-(

Try reinstalling your OS. If the core isn't visible when you install the operating system, it will rarely, if at all, recognize the extra cores. It's a common problem when people upgrade from single to dual without reformatting and reinstalling.

This is a new build PC only a couple of weeks old it has only ever had a dual core installed, I will wipe the cmos and re-install Vista later today as a last resort as im not expecting these to help with the problem because it is a new build.

Damn i wanna start getting this mudda OC but I cant even start to think about that untill i know this CPU is not faulty.

arrghhhhhhhhhhhhh. Ok so I am now at the point where I still cant get the second cpu going, but I will come back to that problem, but in the mean time can anyone help me overclock what I do have.

It seems to me I dont have any options in the bios to OC, but then again I am all very new to OC. So any help and sugestions would be great.

Have you maybe tried flashing/updating your BIOS? An old version might not fully support your CPU in its entirety.

I can't see where theres all that much point overclocking when something is faulty :/. Overclocking may void your warranty (if they find out) so any warranty claims should probably be delt with first

if you read all my points posted so far, i am not going to return it, I can buy a new chip for the price it would cost in postage. So thats why i now want to overclock it. This is a over clocking forum right? ;-)

Besides warranty is already void.
I would put my bets that it is probably the motherboard
Regarding overclocking, there should be an opion labelled FSB or HT this is mainly what you increase to overclock.
I'm not familiar with ASUS boards but there may be a setting that has options like AUTO ASUS BOOST thingy (overclocking without any settings) and MANUAL.
other than that I'm not sure where the overclocking options would be hidden. All these settings will be under 'CPU settings' or something similar.
