Exactly my thoughts. I have her E6750 at 3.4 because the Apevia case is a total waste of space. It neither sucks nor blows ( : ). I recently moved my 8800GTX with the HR-03+ in there, and it's like a little pressure cooker. Last December, some CM690s were on sale for $35 after MIR. I need THAT again. In the meantime, I guess I'll hold on to the spare MF (wish I had bought "open box" now) until the need arises to sell it or use it.

Sorry for off-topic. I'm going to go play GTA now (took off the afternoon for it... )

There's a chance the RAM is holding you back. 4.23 at 470 is my wall unless I take out two sticks. The 333 strap and 6:5 is generally considered quite stable, so give that a try if you haven't. For me, 1:1 seems to need more vNB and vDIMM. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help (I have a spare MF lying around if you want to borrow it ).
well, i pulled two sticks of the RAM and moved past the 450 barrier. i'm working on 457 now. 455 FSB was orthos stable at 3 hours. i'm happy but now that i've gotten past 4.1GHz i wont be satisfied until i see 4.2. if i get stuck again i'll play with the NB strap and voltage.

Ok, I tried to make sense of all the RAM talk but it left me blurry eyed. So to cut to the quick, what is the best choice for RAM for the Maximus board? I have one coming for my new build and will likely attempt the Rampage mod once it is all up and running so I don't know if that will make a difference or not.

Thanks...I am hoping to have this ordered this weekend as it is the last item I need to get the new build going.

Well, I have ballistix on mine, and it sucks. IM gonna try some dominator, i've been told that will work better.

I've heard good things about the G.Skill 2x2Gb HK's, and any 2x1Gb kit with Micron D9G -MH, -KX, or -CT has run really well for me.

The Patriot PC6400LLK 4-4-4-12 2x2Gb kit with PC Chips ICs ran pretty well too, although very hot.

I'll be testing the Kingston HyperX PC8500 5-5-5-15 4x1Gb kit (Micron IC)next week. It will be my first forray back into a 4 stick setup since I had 4x512Mb PC166 SDRAM paired with dual PIII Tualatins.

None of the Corsairs I tried were very good IMO, although none were the Dominators which are spendy IMO.

The way my rig will be configured heat should not be too much of an issue...air cooled but not confined by space constraints so plenty of fresh air.

I do want to stick with 4GB but am having no luck at all finding the G.Skill HK's and I have no idea what the differences are between all the others. Did I mention I really hate dealing with choosing RAM? I guess I will wait to see what that 4x1GB set does for you.

I am very sad Arjy is having problems with their Ballistix, especially considering they only have 2x1. Since we both have the same configuration, I hope they look at my BIOS Settings Thread. I find two of THESE to perform very WELL, no matter what others say. However, they are not on ASUS's QVL (qualified vendor list). And, nor are they on Crucial's for that matter, so perhaps you ought to take my recommendation with a (large) grain of salt. It's just that I have had excellent results with that RAM on this board.

That was my thoughts exactly. I have a HUGE case, lots of high CFM fans, and superb cable managment for maximum air flow, and yet those Patriots ran so hot it made me worry.

I had trouble deciding which G.Skills to go with too- they are all 2x2GB and blue. I've heard that the HZ's are the new shizzy, PK's were the shizzy, and the PQ's were good, but not the shizzy.

As for the 2 vs 4 vs 8 Gb debate, for me 2 isn't enough, 3 is just right, 4 is room to grow, 8 is unnecessary and way overkill. That makes this a 2x2 or 4x1 debate- and we've all heard the standard "2 sticks are easier to OC than 1" bit. However, back in the days of SDRAM I ran 4x512Mb and OC'd it from 133MHz to 200MHz at CL1.5 and 225MHz at CL2. Now I've seen that several people have sucessfully run 4x1 on the MF with few difficulties, most of them have gotten really good OCs- better than my 2x1 in terms of MHz (but not timings).

IMHO, the new higher density ICs that are found on 2Gb sticks are too fragile and/or have sub-timing latencies that are too high to achieve the same performance you can get using 4x1Gb.

My Maximus/Rampage Formula has killed four 2GB Ballistix 1066 kits (total 8GB) in the past 4 months. (Just got 4 GB back from Crucial on Thursday) For now I'm running Kingston HyperX PC8500, but it isn't very reliable above 485. I'm still trying to find something that will run fast (i.e. 500+) AND reliable in this board.

Have you measured your VDimm? Mine OVs from 0.10-0.20V as you increase it. Auto/1.80 in BIOS is 1.88 Fluke DMM verified, 2.0 in BIOS is 2.10 with my DMM. 2.20 in bios gives me 2.34 measured with my DMM, while 2.30 gives me 2.48V.

Additionally I've found that the Crucial heat spreaders tend to seperate from the ICs. I my self have killed 3 sets of Ballistix- one on my P5NE and 2 on the Maximus. I truly believe it's the heat spreaders.
