New here, and new to owning a machine from the current decade; this looks like just the forum for me....
need help determining a safe level for pll voltage, as information seems sparse on the topic. here's some specs for my new machine and then a couple questions....
Mobo: Asus Maximus extreme, no liquid attached
CPU: Q6600 (GO Stepping) LGA775
RAM: 2x1GB Kingston DDR3@1066 (PC-8500)
1xAsus EAH3870top (heatsink model)
thermaltake big typhoon 120mm
thermaltake soprano silver
so I've uninstalled the asus software (junk imo) and am clocking manually from BIOS, currently all voltages set to "auto", FSB @ 354Mhz, cpu multiplier "auto" (to allow for 6x during idle to save power), ram @ 1410Mhz.
CPU-Z reports my cpu voltage at 1.38v, way under intel's spec; but i've just noticed that the "auto" pll voltage is hovering just over 1.8 and the bios paints the value red.....
What is a safe pll value? should i override the "auto" board setting to something lower (1.7)?
Other than pll voltage everything in the build is performing beautifully and I'm hoping to squeeze a bunch more out of the cpu, but I'm returning some **** to default until I can find some answers about safe pll voltage.
