laptop error message

Thread Starter
Every thing was fine until I started to get vista service pack. now a stupid windows error recovery screen shows up and it will not let me launch startup repair or start windows normally. I have tried to reformat and it says something about files possibly corrupt and checksum is not the same as computed checksum. Please help.

This is happening on an ASUS f3sa1 laptop

Did this happen while installing SP1, or after it was successfully installed?

during installation it got to 98% on step 1 of 3 and just turned off. restarted then it said the then it came up to the windows error recovery screen. it asks to repair windows or start windows normally. but neither works so I tried putting in the Vista disc and booting from it to do a repair, and it says the check sum deal. I also tried booting into safe mode and it starts to go through the list of stuff then restarts on it's own.

i had a similair prob when i installed vista on my box,

yeah, you need to pull out some of the ram. no more than 2GB on clean install. install OS, then after up an running, reinstall ram. I seen this problem several times. this is common.
