I caved in....Macbook!!!!

Thread Starter
Well, I did it, finally got myself a mac.

I was just curious, are there any websites you all know of that would help me get used to using a mac? I feel so crippled...my knowledge of Windows means absolutely NOTHING right now.

Good question from the start: I know I can't right click...but is there a way to bring up the menu in firefox that acts like right clicking in windows? (I can't spell sometimes )

Thanks!

congrats, i just got mine 3 weeks ago before the update

if you go to the mac rumor forums you will find a massive community with tons of info.

EDIT: To right-click, hold control and click. or go in system preferences and enable 2-finger right-click in the mouse section. when this is done all you need to do is put 2 fingers on the trackpad and click.

I don't see the point in a mac though, I thought they weren't nearly as compatible, and you couldn't upgrade parts on them as easily. I know they're good for video editing, they look cool, and they have a good GUI, but what's the point? I've wanted that answer for a long time.

haha, yeah, its also funny that windows is easier to use on a pc than a mac. you have all the functional windows drivers on the leopard disc, and they install with one click and work nice and bug-free.

OSX is a much better laptop environment. I use XP, Vista, and OSX; Windows pales in comparison. The only thing i use windows for now is games and utorrent.

I don;t understand the point of your question. Whats the point in buying a dell or toshiba, hp, blah blah blah? The ram is easily upgradable and the hd is easily as upgradable. BTW, this is a laptop we are talking about. The quality is beautiful, the thing looks so nice and clean (plus no stickers all over the place) you can not only run xp and vista, osx as well, so ti makes it even more compatible than any other computer on the market. So what are you asking again?

Woot, you sir..are awesome. I have enabled those things.

(BTW...right after I posted, I found out control + click gets you to the same menu!) I will have to check all these websites out. I'll probably be getting Photoshop CS3 once I get comfortable with this.

OH, and I can't wait to try out this .mac thing...looks really cool.

OH, and on another side note...I will probably transfer all my itunes stuff onto this computer. Is there a good mac program that anyone knows of so I can do this. My brother has done it before...so I think I am going to end up getting him over here for mac tutorial night!

right clicking is control + click (or you can set it to "two fingered click")
scrolling is dragging two fingers on the trackpad (the only feature I like with my macbook)
zooming is holding control, then dragging two fingers
at night time you can invert the colors (or just for fun ) by holding control+alt+apple+8
and if you haven't figured it out already, f8, f9, f10, f11, and f12 (maybe not f8...) all do funky desktop functions, like hiding all applications, displaying all open windows, displaying all open windows of current application, and opening dashboard.

@ mth91, the best mac pro was outperformed by the equal parts in a dell workstation while video encoding. Dell was like 104% times the speed of the Mac. It was in a magazine article I found... can't figure out if theres a link to it or not.
