So thats the main components of the new system. Am I going to need more cooling for the SLI setup? Did I forget any crucial components? I already have the OS, monitor, keyboard, mouse, thermal compound, and other peripherals that I need.

ANY input/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Also, I am going to be ordering soon. My budget is about 2k, so I will need to make a few adjustments. I will post pics when I start the build.

Thanks for the reply! Also thanks for mixing it up a little. It's forcing me to look at these options I haven't really considered.

I have to be honest. I am pretty much sold on the q6600. I do understand how the higher clock speed of the CPU will benefit gaming. As much as I would love to, gaming isn't the only thing I will use this build for.

As for the video, it really comes down to Crossfire vs. SLI. That's something I need to read up on a bit.

I am not overly concerned with the sound. Would the performance boost of a sound card be that much different than the onboard audio?

The memory is also something I need to look into a bit.

Well I received most of my parts on Friday (ordered on Wednesday) and I have some pics. I received everything but the case and PSU. Let me just say first of all, I am highly disappointed with both UPS and Newegg's packing department.

This is on the screen side of the box.

Luckily, despite UPS' best attempts to ruin my day, they failed.

And for Newegg's packing.

There were peanuts spilling out everywhere (driveway, front porch). They sealed a box containing almost 2k worth of parts with a SINGLE piece of tape which didn't even reach the ends of the box. All of the hardware passed my visual inspection but has yet to be tested. Hopefully when I receive my PSU on Monday, everything works correctly.

Ok, lets get on to the good stuff.

OCZ Platinum DDR2 1000 (2x2gb)

Tuniq Tower 120

2x EVGA 8800GTS (G92) for SLI

MSI P7N Diamond 780i Mobo

Let me just say that this motherboard is absolutely stunning!

I have some other random stuff as well.

2x Seagate Barracuda 250gb
Sony DVD Burner
Samsung Floppy Drive
(yeah, I'm old school)
Crysis (of course)
3x Antec case fans (they were cheap at a local computer hardware store)

Now lets have some fun. Whats over a foot long and over 6 inches in diameter.

Can you guess what they wrapped up in this monster?

Anyway, once I get my PSU I will start doing some stock benchmarks for reference and I will post them here. After all of that is done I'm going to start overclocking and I will post those benchmarks here as well.

G'Day for now.

Good to hear that you receoived almost all your items, keep posting the final results and pics. Too bad about your misfortune with newegg and the UPS, hopefully the items were not damaged.

I definitely thought about it. I will probably order those when I get my next paycheck.

It is a single 3.5g tube of Arctic Silver 5, LOL.

Yeah, usually Newegg is pretty good about this kind of stuff. The other box that came was packaged very nicely. I would say that poor packaging is out of character for Newegg.

I have a friend that works for UPS and you should hear the stories. Really sad, they need to start firing people. From now on, I will avoid shipping UPS if I can. I'll pay the extra money for FedEx.

Yep, I figured what the heck. I've heard good things about those Seagates in RAID 0 and the NB Heatsink really sold me on the P7N Diamond.
