Proposed New Build - Page 2

I think it's most likely a disgruntled employee or your UPS, I have never seen a box which looks that dark/old/wrinkled delivered to my house by Newegg. It definitely shouldn't be a reason to not use Newegg again.

I totally agree. Since nothing is physically damaged, I doubt that shipping/packaging methods would play a role if something doesn't work.

The bottom line is, Newegg has some of the best prices around, they ship fast, they have excellent customer service, and typically ship a quality product.

UPS on the other hand, I am not happy with.

I got everything together and it all works properly.

The only benchmark test I ran so far is 3DMark06 with a score of 12960 at all stock speeds. This test was run at default settings (I refuse to buy the full version). All normal processes running in the background. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed with this score as I expected a bit higher.

This MSI P7N Diamond is an absolute joy to work with. The BIOS is very easy to navigate and on-board power/reset/clear CMOS buttons make setup very easy. I am however having a problem with my mouse. Everytime I restart the computer I have to unplug the USB and plug it back in for it to work. I'm not sure if this is related to the USB controller, mouse drivers, or Vista itself. My keyboard works fine every time so I doubt this problem is mobo related.

I also love the CM Stacker 830. It is a very aesthetically pleasing case. Cable management is pretty bad though I've never been good at it. Also, the side panels seem to be a bit loose and sometimes they rattle.

The OCZ Platinum DDR2 1000 RAM is ok for the price. Originally BIOS had it set to operate at 800MHz but increasing the voltage to the rated 2.1v allows me to run the modules at the rated 1000MHz. They don't seem to overclock well and the timings are pretty loose.

Core Temp: Idle
High - 33C
Low - 25C

Core Temp: Load
High - 40C
Low - 30C

I had an elaborate plan to benchmark a ton of games and loading times but I didn't.

One thing I noticed that's interesting is the performance of Crysis. At 1680x1050, options set to Very High, and No AA the game is near unplayable. Hopefully some healthy overclocking will help.

I absolutely love RAID 0 and I will never look back! One thing I will say is that Vista seems to be hanging up on installs/transfers and is probably restricting potential.

If anyone that reads this wants me to benchmark any specific games/apps just let me know and don't forget to leave the settings in your post.

G'Day for now.
