The gaming results are amazing................

To be able to spend an extra $180 and add the sort of FPS you see in the gaming tests is astounding. If I had a mobo that supported CrossfireX and the 2900XTs supported it then I would strongly consider it in the future.
For now my cards slaughter every game (except Crysis of course), so there's really no need for more GPU horsepower. THis is even at 1920x1080........

Will the 2900XTs work with the 3870x2s?

Edit, nvm, it wont.

An HD3870X2 + HD3870 will run you around the same estimated price as as a 9800GX2. I won't say that things are set in stone because these are preliminary benchmarks and the 9800GX2 isn't actually out yet, but $600 on graphics is far from unheard of. Anyone that purchased a flagship or even upper-tier card at launch has spent that much before.

I thought with crossfire if you hooked up a lesser card with a better card.It went mainly with the lesser card.

That's something CrossfireX is supposed to solve. I think the clocks will still default to the lowest card (775MHZ Core/Shader thanks to the HD3870, 900MHz mem thanks to the HD3870X2), but even at those clocks that's still three rather powerful cards all working together and apparently scaling rather well.

$600 is more than I'd usually spend on graphics cards, but it's certainly far from unusual.

Has anyone else noticed that none of these PREVIEWS are talking about 3 or 4 regular 3870's? It's always only two X2's or an X2 and a 3870.

That's because CrossfireX is the hybrid Crossfire, right? I'm not sure, but that's what I thought....
