If you look at them now.. they are solid colors that have a 1px border. Like im afraid to say it, but it sort of looks like a default template. Instead of having solid colors, add images. Like i said before.. the human eye is attracted to design. I could help you guys if you need help.
Have a link to a design you like? I have heard this comment before and 90% of the time almost choked when I saw sites the individual liked

I agree the site needs refreshed (we are in the process of doing so) but I think we will always stay a little more utilitarian than eye-candy. If we miss out on some members as a result, oh well. We are not begging for new members here - we appreciate those who come here for what we are

The designs have actually evolved a lot since we last posted them and will be much more refined when we actually have the process completed. We hope to have all designs done by Dec 31 so we can start rolling them out shortly after. There will be a central image (rig of the day?) near the top so that it reduces the amount of text.

Do you want me to just take the screenshot from the version 4 and add some graphics to it to give you an idea?

I would rather see sites you think are good examples of this. I really do not want unsolicited design work (for a bunch of reasons), but if that's easier for you to demonstrate the style you are referencing, please feel free to do so.

I like the ideas from the first post, simple designs/images in the latest discussions, overclocking news, and other sections like that, also you could make those two the same color like on the last image in the first post, it looks kinda strange with them being different colors.

Alright ill try to give you specifics by posting links of certain parts of sites. If that doesn't help i can just edit your screenshot and make a rough design if you want me to. Ok here goes my attempt at explaining it:

The table headers would look cool if they looked something like the ones from
- www.Xboxforum.com -

When i was talking about the member sumbitted backgrounds..
- www.Razetheworld.com - has a feature that randomly displays theirs and other peoples backgrounds that they submitted. Or you could just do a custom one or a gradient background.

As far as the interface of the tables and stuff go, i would think a cool flowing connections of tables would look cool. This might not look as good with a forum, but you could use this guys patterns and styles looks
- www.elitenick.com/templates/html-templates -

Also another look for headers and stuff would be a nice glossy look with maybe some gradient and some effects. Sort of like:

Another layout feature that would be nice is a full size banner that fits in with your template. The logo is fine right now, but maybe make it larger, center it, and add it to flow with your layout sort of like
- http://www.talkxbox.com/forum/ -

One thing that looks good with any kind of site is: instead of having square tables, make them rounded. Rounded with a glossy look is really nice. Another factor that you might want to change is the color. Im sure you and alot of people don't really care about the color, but in my opinon, i think that the greyish bluish look is ugly =/ im sorry but it just doesn't seem to catch my eye at all. Thats just a few examples and ideas that would make Overclock.Net a more successful and better looking site. Like i said, i can still edit the version 4 screenshot and put it all together if you would like. If you want anymore examples or anything, just let me know.

Oh yeah i forgot to mention too.. A cool feature for the new design would be a notification for new posts on each forum. Right now there overclock logo is positioned to the left of the forum names. The cool feature that i've seen people do is, make that logo change colors or something everytime there is a new post in that forum. for example: www.xboxforum.com - has the xbox logo that is featured on the controllers next to the forum names. When there is a new post in that forum, that logo shines green (like when the xbox controller is on) just another idea that i think would be cool.

Thanks very much for your suggestions and the work done to find the examples. As thought though, I highly doubt we will go down that road. For instance, this looks so tacky to me and overused: http://elitenick.com/templates/html-templates.

Clean, refined, minimalist is what we are going to be aiming for. I am not saying our current look is anything to write home about - I am only referencing where we are heading.

I have no doubt in my mind that the vast majority of our members will LOVE the new design and features that will come along with it (in time, in some cases).

Once again, I really do appreciate the suggestions. Design is so subjective - it will never be possible to please everyone.

Well if you just don't want to bother with getting people to do the design and stuff, i would be more than happy to do it for you.

It is okay for me i guess, personally i would keep it the same. Just my two cents though.
