Temp ok for NB/SB ?

Thread Starter
Hello people, newbie here ..

I have just installed a Maximus Formula SE which neatly displays temps for North and South Bridge. Cool, only .. I have no idea what these temps should be ?

Currently they're NB: 37° Celsius, SB: 41° Celsius.
(that's about 98.6° resp. 105.8° fahrenheit?)

Is that Ok? Or do I need to redesign my (air) cooling setup?
How hot can a NB/SB go without too much probs ?

(and what is a healthy limit for the Core 2 Duo CPU?)

Thanks for your advice!

Limit on C2D depends on the cpu model.

But often its around 60 or 72.

Run a stress tester like Prime 95 or Orthos (I would do a blend test). Try playing a demanding game as well and quickly checking back at your temps. If your Northbridge and Southbridge don't go much over 50-60C, I wouldn't worry too much. If they do, then I'd look into some better case cooling; or you may want to even try removing the NB and SB coolers and replacing the thermal compound with Arctic Silver Ceramique. If your temps are still too high for your liking, you could look into aftermarket NB or SB cooling. There are plenty of options out there.

EDIT: You can also *quickly* touch (be VERY careful) your NB and SB heatsinks. If they are too hot to touch for more than a few seconds, they are probably running too hot. You *should* (if the temps are normal) be able to keep your fingers on them indefinitely without discomfort.

Hello there, first go here to add your system specs to your profile.

If those are the temps at idle they are perfectly fine for now, but do stress test it and check all your temps to see what they are like while under load.

For more information on the Maximus, there's a new thread i started, click the link in my sig.
