E6750 is running too hot

Thread Starter
I just built a system with an Intel Core 2 Duo 6750 CPU, Antec 900 case, Abit IP35 Pro motherboard, and used the stock cooler. (I have a Zalman 9500, but broke one of the clips, it's a long story - getting a replacement part. )

Anyway, my system idles at 35C, and running Prime95 pushes the core temps up to 72C (as reported by Core Temp 0.96.1). I am suspicious that I did not seat the stock heat sink properly. Also, should I add extra thermal paste to the amount that comes attached to the stock heat sink? I did not when I built the system.

Thanks for any comments. I will be back for overclocking questions after I get the cooling situation under control!

Regards,
Tom

Have u got the Settings on Auto in the bios

Download Core temp and check the VID

the VID is the lowest Vcore u can run at stock .

But yea i have same case and same CPU and i get around 27-30 idle and 50-55 load but thats at 3.7ghz

Also fill in ure Spec and ure RIG

Under User CP tab ^

Yeah, I've got it on Auto in the BIOS.

My VID is 1.35V as reported by Core Temp, and that's the lowest possible in the BIOS. Were you thinking I should reduce the CPU voltage (if it were possible)?

Do you think I need to try reseating the heat sink?

Thanks,
Tom

is it at 35C with the stock cooler or with the zalman 9500?

edit: you will have to manually input your settings. you will need to set RAM timings to 4-4-4-12 and the voltage to 2.2v. you can set the cpu to 1.35 volts which is generally stock voltage. also, if that is the temps with the stock cooler than that is about right. other wise your zalman isnt making good contact

Sorry for the confusion, the temps are with the stock cooler. I broke a piece on the Zalman and need to get that replaced, will then install it.

What worries me is the 72C I get when running Prime95 (not the torture test, just my usual Lucas-Lehmer test that I'm currently running). What do you think?

I'll check my RAM voltage settings.

Thanks, Tom

Something is wrong .

My suggestion to u is get rid of the stock cooler throw it in the bin.

Go out and buy a Tuniq Tower.

Then we can help u overclock the E6750

Also use AS5 or MX-2 from Arctic cooling

A straight Line down the middle is all u need

Heres a link for how to do it

No gamer should use the stock heatsink even if they arn't overclocking... those things arn't ment for heavy gaming/heavy load.

Thanks for your help!

What is a reasonable full-load temp for this chip? I will be running Prime95 on this machine around the clock.
Thanks,

Tom

72C is pushing it, I would want at least 10C lower...try aiming another fan at the stock heatsink and seeing if that helps at all
