80w Tec + 120mm Rad

Thread Starter
is a single 120mm rad enough to cool a 80w peltier? i'm using the peltier to cool a small laser module i'm building so the heat load on the peltier should be minimal

i'd get a dual rad, like a '77 bonneville heatercore. pretty cheap and performs great.

could be ok .. to many variables to give a good estimate
post #4 of 6
As muffy says, could work, but there are a lot of variables. Just for starters:

What voltage will you run the peltier at?
What radiator is it?
What fan/fans will you use?
What flow rate will you achieve (pump strength against loop restriction)?
What temperatures do you want to reach?
How will you mount the peltier to the cooling loop and element to cool?

its a simple loop consisitng of this peltier (ill rpobaly run it at something like 20watts), a pump, and the rad. i'm only using this peltier to cool a laser module (size of your thumbnail) so i can get some monster performance out of it

if you run it at such low power, a single rad will probably be enough yeah. still, if you're going single merely for price, you may still want to look at the heatercores. if it's a space issue, and you need the single rad, i'd suggest the BIX* if you cant/dont want to pay more for the GTX120.

you could get the PA120.1, but the GTX beats it for way less. 360 GTX Beats PA.3 Using 47cfm YL Fans
alternatively, theres the PA160.1 which is generally used with a 120mm fanshroud.

*main picture shows the X-flow, but the listed product is the 2-pass.
