When submitting your unit for repair, you are not guaranteed your unit back, nor are you guaranteed a "Brand New" unit
, you may
receive a recently returned and Factory Refurbished
-"Fully functional to original specifications"- Unit instead.
Now, say that unit had come from a questionable care environment, and the techs only repaired the electronics inside!
If you sent yours in to be repaired/refurbished and it came back with gum and lint and Crayola on it You would be a little bit miffed; wouldn't you?
So, they clean the units as SOP.
from the thread:
Im one of the people that works at MS for console repair.
(im a lacky but I can shed some light on this)
Keep in mind that the console repair facility for north america is in mexcio, by a 3rd party company, under administration by microsoft. Very few people there speak english so the letter would have just been disregarded when the consoles are unboxed.
Standard procedure is for the consoles to udnergo a cleaning and removal of any stickers or anything on the console before and after the repair process (otherwise it might get back dirty and people would complain about that). Thats what happened here. It got scrubbed with rubbing alcohol twice before leaving.
Nobody took vengance against the console to purposley scrub it off, this incident inst the fault of MS. Its just std procedure to make sure the consoles are returned to the customer in like new condition.
and as many have pointed out, the onus lies solely on the tech support Phone operator for promising something that he could not guarantee would occur
So it is still in Microsoft's court to attempt to rectify the matter, but, cries of underhandedness and malicious negligence are out of order.
In fact I think this could turn out great for M$;
If the word spreads and the upstanding & "we're just 'one of the lads"" folks at various Game devs. get together and come up with an uber autographed/stenciled/airbrushed/goldplated/"1ofakind" replacement for Nathaniel; they could gain loads of new xboxers who were previously ambivolent.
