Good OC ram for abit ip35-e 4gb possibly 8?

I'm going to build a gaming/htpc hybrid from the ground up and i've heard good things about the abit ip35-e motherboard. Chip is a e8400 with moderate OC on air.

I'll be running vista64 and I'm trying to find out suggestions on good memory for the price. I'm set on 4 gigs but I'd rather go 8gigs since the price is so low right now. Any suggestions on what configuration to go for if I do 8? I thought 2gbx4 is unstable for OC but I don't see many 4gb chips. If it's a hassle I may just go with 4gig.

Besides specific models, do I need 800mhz or 1066? I think my mb only does 800 but i'm not sure. Also do i go pc8000 or what?

For 8 gigs you'd need 4 x 2gb. Do not buy kits on newegg that say "8 gb, 4x2gb" or anything like that. All those companies do is take their 4gig sets and put them in a bundle of 2, and for some crazy reason they cost way more than double...

Buy 2 sets of these:

And this is the craziness. 2 sets of the above in a bundle package costs 264 dollars, or more than 80 dollars more than above.

2 sets of the 4gb G.Skills cost 180 bucks.
1 set of the bundled G.Skills cost 264 bucks.

The G.Skill DDR2 1000 2x2Gb set are only $110. The CAS5 800 set posted above does not OC that well.

The Abit IP35-E will run these. Plus they give you more room to OC.

Currently, 4Gb of ram is overkill. But if you want 8Gb, consider that some are experiencing instabilty with that much ram. I would only recomend you get 4Gb for now.

The abit board states it goes up to 633/800 - what's the point in getting 1000 memory?

Because you can OC the ram! If you run anything over 400 FSB, you can utilize this ram. it will allow you to run a 400 - 500 FSB and still be in specs for the ram.
