Question about the new Phenoms

Thread Starter
Are they compatible with a socket AM2 motherboard or would I need to buy a new AM2+ mobo? Last I heard they would work in an AM2 but that was a while back ago.

they physically fit in an am2 board you'll just need to check and see if you motherboards manufacturer has put out a bios that will support the phenom for you particular board

From everything I have read on every forum and article I have found so far, I would suggest that you get an AM2+ board, as it appears that the most flexibility and performance results from having that socket type in the most updated board.

However I take it that you are going to wait until the updated Phenom emerges from AMD, which will "hopefully" fix some of the issues and at the least meet some of the performance expectations we have become accustomed to from AMD, perhaps beyond... (can't knock a guy for being optimistic- as long as he acknowledges the pessimism thats possible)
