typically you wanna keep your desktop 24/7 i guess, but how much of a risk/life span of the PSU by only turning computer on when using it, and turning off when done.

Which is what i do. I never leave my computer on overnight.

PSU's are made to do that. There is no point of keeping a computer on 24/7 unless you fold.

Leaving a computer on all the time is technically better on some of the parts because heating up and cooling down is worse on hardware than just running 24/7.

But if you like me and don't want a insane power bill, I turn my comp on when I get up, and turn it off when I go to sleep. Always have, and comps are ment to do both.

Even if your turning your comp on and off 30 times a day it'd still take a LONG time for it to ruin it.

I turn my computer off if I'm walking away for 15minutes, I don't need a crazy power bills and I've never had a system die on me from a power supply problem.

I turn mine off at night unless I'm defragging or downloading something big.
With my old computer I used to leave it on 24/7 for the simple fact it took years to boot up.

you do know that psu's have a "life cycle" of X number of hours (so if the psu is on all the time it counts towards those hours

I would say that would for anything that had a life cycle.
