Please rate my build

Hey, everyone! Here's my latest build wish-list. Check it out! Everything is on NewEgg unless otherwise specified. All of the prices include the shipping. The memory and DVD writer have free shipping right now.The following list is a set of answers to questions you may have, so please see if your question is included!

Why are you going with just 2GB of memory? To be honest, 1GB might be all I need, but I want 2GB just in case I end up needing more than 1 in the future. Besides, I think I read that WinXP doesn't support 4GB. Is this true?

Why are you only going with 250GB? That's not going to be enough space! Well, check this out: I have two 40GB's, and the combined total of used space between them is 25.54GB. So, I'm going with 250GB to be ready for the future when 80GB will be a minimum system requirement.

Why don't you go with the 8800GT? It alone will beat two 8600's in SLI That's a good point, but I can't afford it right now. But the main reason is I don't need anything better than like the GeForce 6 or 7 series (or low 8 series) for the kind of gaming I'll probably be doing. So, I am sort of getting a lot more than I really need, but it'll last longer, so-to-speak, than a 6 or 7 series.

Why do you have one DVD writer and one DVD-ROM? Why not just have two writers? Well, for one, I don't see any need to have 2 writers when one is all I need. I mean, I currently have a CD-RW, and a CD-ROM, so I've come to love the capability of writing directly to the destination from the source, instead of to the HDD first, then take the source out, insert the destination, etc.. No, thanks.

What will you be using this for? The most demanding game I currently own is Tron 2.0, and I'll be playing it on its highest settings. Other than that, Unreal 1 (Gold) and Freespace 2. Beyond that, it's going to be used for playing movies, copying cd's and movies, and of course your basic every day stuff. Even beyond that, I don't know WHAT I'll end up doing with it once I feel its power.

So then what do you want us to say about your build? Anything, really. But do you see any specific part where I could change it to a better one without raising the price much more than like $5-$10? Or, also, do you see any compatibility issues?

Will you be overclocking? Yeah. I want to get as much value out of this as I can. I'm hoping to surpass 3.2GHz for the added value and fun. I also want to oc the memory and maybe even the GPU. That reminds me: what else can be overclocked?

I heard that the NB on this mobo gets very hot and buying cooling is a MUST. Will the stock cooling in the 690 be good enough until I figure out a solution?

That's pretty much it. Thank you for helping me with my build!

I have 4Gb of Mushkin HP memory also if you want it lol. And a Tuniq Tower 120 that will be better and easier to install than the Zerotherm you have listed (WOW that cooler is $67).

I knew I left out a question! Yeah, I was all gung-ho about the Tuniq Tower until I read in the P5N-E SLI 650i Thread that it's a tight fit, and may bend some capacitors. But maybe I should swap it out. After all, it's $39.99 after the rebate or something.

why ASUS dvd drive? lol I like the round button on the samsungs. like it really matters at all. I own both samsung and asus drives the difference I see is my color choices and the button and LED other then that they are disc drives plain and simple

thats a pretty nice set up you put together

I might have to buy the Tuniq Tower very soon to get this price. It's $46.32 after shipping.

Thank you. I worked kinda hard on it so far! But even so, I'm open to suggestions no matter what they are (as long as they're not already answered in my ghetto FAQ).

Yeah, I love that round button. I'm almost tempted to chuck the ASUS and save up for another samsung dvd writer just for the appearance.

Well, I'm going to order the Tuniq Tower if I hear of somebody who has one on this ASUS mobo!
I think your really going to like that case, I have heard nothing but good things about tuniq towers, any thoughts on after market video card cooling, I did mine just becasue the fan was loud that also opened up overclocking for me on it as well

I haven't thought about any GPU cooling yet. And I just read through the reviews on NewEgg about the mobo, and thanks to CTRL+F, I found two reviews: one of the reviewers said he had a Tuniq Tower, but it was a very tight fit on it, and the other guy had the ZEROtherm Nirvana, but he didn't say anything about it's fit. He just said he's using it.

So, I'm at the NewEgg check out with the X-Fi XtremeGamer and the Tuniq Tower in my cart ready to be purchased. All I have to do is click Submit Order. If I do that, then I'm totally committed to completing this build.

Should I do it? I just don't want this to be such a tight fit that it damages anything.
