best backup software? - Page 2

Thread Starter
equetefue what if I try this? Before I created the acronis safe zone. I backed up everything and saved the file in my documents. What if I reinstall windows in unpartioned space and then load up acronis and restore from the saved backup that I made in my previous windows. Do you think this will work?

I may be wrong, but your disc was all partitioned before in to one partition, so to make a new one it had to format your hard drive, therefor erasing your entire computer. May be wrong though, sorry...

Simple and easy to use. Only drawback is that it costs 75 bucks. A very wise investment. I ended up purchasing this after I had to do a format and reinstall. I have had to restore with Ghost a few times. It has saved my a$$ more than once...............

Time Machine... Or Carbon Copy Cloner... lol

Well for windows, I've only ever used the internal backup program. It kinda sucks, though. I would like something for windows that would make a CARBON COPY of my HDD, an exact clone that I can just copy back to my original HDD if it ever failed. And I'd need it to be free.

So I guess... Is RAID 1 the best backup?

PS: Why is it that whenever I do some kind of recovery, either from system restore or a backup, windows is never the same. It's like you have to ALWAYS do a fresh install for it to run as good as it should. If you restore the system or do a system copy from a backup, windows never runs the same again.

When you go to repair windows type the command "chkdsk /r" without the quotes. It should go through and find which files are missing and automatically pop em back in.

The problem is missing files? The system restores just fine; it's just very sluggish thereafter, until I completely reinstall the system.

Ah, come on. You gotta try it longer than that.
