Seems a bit pointless to release it when people can just skip it.
As far as I've known you could do this with any windows update because XP had the same type of pirate-catcher updates.

Let me start out by saying that I have Vista on both my laptop and my home PC and both are legal.

Anyways, let's say someone's computer did get locked up by this because they didn't know about this "update". Couldn't they just wipe the HDD and re-install the cracked Vista then choose this "update" and not install it and be good to go? I'm not an expert or a hacker in any way and I even figured that one out. If MS was smarter they wouldn't have released the correct information on what this "update" actually did.

P.S. No phone call yet. Hmmmmm....maybe I'll call him later today and see if his stuff is still working. Or maybe this crack down on the cracked Vista isn't all it's cracked up to be?

A friend of mine has vista, some bootloader hack... He updated to SP1 then the crack update, he hasn't had any problems supposedly. Said no effect what-so-ever on his *cringe* pirated copy.
