Odd internet in ubuntu

Thread Starter
So I decided to reinstall ubuntu 7.10 today and give it another try. I booted from the live cd first and to my amazement, my wireless worked perfect. I just had to click on the network name and it connected. Amazing right? Well I installed ubuntu with glee, but when it rebooted after installing, my wireless no longer worked. Any ideas? (yes I will be trying ndiswrapper in a little bit, just wondering why it works in livecd and not when installed)

I've have had those problems with Network Manager (Mangler). Go into Admin and click on Network. Click on properties for your wireless, disable roaming mode and manually set up your nic and enable it. You may have to enable it and disable it a couple of time before it works....

Give that a try.

Good Luck!!

It's asking for a bunch of info and it won't let me disable roaming unless I put that in. It also won't let me select the option for if I don't have an encrypted network.

You should strongly consider encrypting your network. WPA or at least WEP. Other people may be able to login to your network and have a blast downloading music, pirated warez etc. and you'll be the one who it gets traced to. Read the docs on you router and secure it!!!

That has happened to me before. I just had to keep removing it and installing it until it said it was valid.

So first:

sudo ndiswrapper -i <.inf> (to install)
sudo ndiswrapper -l (to check)

if invalid:
sudo ndiswrapper -r <name of invalid driver listen in ndiswrapper -l>
(retry installation)
(retry list until valid)

It takes me a couple tries sometimes for some reason.

Oh, and off topic a little: I tried to hook up my Linux HDD, but apparently something got overwritten while I was using it as a backup drive for my other computers, so now it won't boot

I'm going to have to try to dualboot on one of my other computers as a temporary install and try to install CSS there. I'll see if I can do this tonight.

Sounds good. And somehow, the wireless is working just fine now. Don't ask me how, because I don't know.
