Black Knight: SkullTrail Upgrade Picture Thread - Page 21

Congratulations, CyberDruid.

Think you can build me adapters for the MCH/NB block, just like yours? You use the Asus S-Max (or whatever other model) from EK, correct?

Is the Transcend 800 Mhz ram supposed to be the "Mac" model ?

Linus at NCIX has the Blastflow SB block in stock.

Thanks

Hey that's good to hear because shipping from the UK jacks that part way up.

I would be glad to make up the brackets. I probably should have made an extra set when I had the block off the rig.

I do have the stock Intel backing plate to do take offs from though so all is well.

Shoot me a PM when you get a chance.

I still have two hurdles I have to deal with: (1) the willingness to forgo performance for the sake of spoilt-kid-rich-toy bling.. as in an overclocked 790i will eat this system alive in gaming, and, (2) having the guts and willingness to jump head on into this project.. I estimate the barebones system, new case plus water cooling alone will cost upwards of $6K. Throw in my appetite for video cards, monitors and HDDs (which thankfully I already have), the project price easily doubles that. I'm a geek and I have an IRS refund check to spend.. but common sense has a nasty habit of kicking in.

Do it quick before your right brain and left brain start wrestling...

My X38 would out game this rig lol...with the current set up.

I would need the QX9775s and much tigher RAM and probably more potent cards.

It's definitely a money pit

Actually, I think I stumbled upon a fast and easy solution. Apparently, Danger Den has a block called the MPC-X38. Strangely, their X38 block is also a drop-in fit for the Skulltrail. I don't understand why EK's S-Max doesn't fit the Skulltrail. Ironically, the DD version is copper and plexiglass, so it looks like the Blastflow Skulltrail block. For me, easy is good. I less thing to muckup.

good find

does it come with a backplate or anything to mount it?

Hehehe... sorry I don't have the definitive info to confirm. I would only imagine that it has a backplate, but that can all be fixed with a simple message while ordering. DD is usually pretty polite and responsive on the phone as well. I must admit that I'm not the most enthusiastic DD supporter, but that make good stuff.

I do know that DarthBeavis (he's quite infamous lol) has a SkullTrail system with a DD chipset block and two latest-revised TDX blocks. He's partial to DD.

Well, at least it looks like the Blastflow block, although it wouldn't blend in well with a delrin D-Tek or a Apogee GTX.

Order direct from Transcend.

I ordered 4 2GB kits advertised as 5 5 5 15. Well CPU ID and the BIOS detect SPD of 6 6 6 18 for DDR2 800.

And when I try and run it at 5 5 5 15 overclocking the FSB to 400 on the Xeons the RAM is actually running DDR2 800 but it will not do it without excess voltage. And it should do it at Specified voltage. And it occasionally throws errors and crashes.

Once I set it to SPD (6 6 6 18) it has run flawlessly.

But it's slowwwwwwwwww.
