pre-applied thermal pastes pleh!

Ever since I got my x1950pro it was running hot, 47c idle 80c under load which is way too hot for me. So I took my card out too see why it was so hot, I unscrewed the heatsink and of course, there was thermal paste everwhere, not only that but way too much, about the thickness of a toothpick.

So I cleaned the ***** up, and applied a thin layer of as5, slapped it back in and now doesn't get over 56c under load.

I guess I'm wondering what you experience, has anyone actually taken off there stock heatsink and found the right amount of thermal paste applied?

I mean I know the companies don't care but come on, my card looked like someone emptied half a tube onto it.

My 8800GT looked like the aftermath of a bad adult film.

Fixed. The bad ones are where they don't show the load.

And I'll probably find out how good of a job HIS did with ICEQ 3's thermal paste here in a few months.

yea, the problem with those pads not only is there too much on the pad, but they are usually way bigger than the gpu area and then when they heat up they slop all over the pcb
