Oblivion has had alot of problems with the 8 series...

Try defragging, and make sure you have the latest GPU drivers.

Even 2x 8800GTX cannot max oblivion with all the graphical mods. But I did notice that 50FPS seemed rather choppier than 50FPS should be.

I can run it pretty much maxed out on my X1900XT. It does get choppy sometimes, but smooth for the most part. A card like that should run it no problem. Sounds like a driver issue or perhaps some program that is making constant use of your hard drives.

If you don't enable AA, 2 8800gtx's should get close to maxing it out with all texture mods. They would just be short a bit on texture memory, so you couldn't install ALL the texture mods.

Oblivion works great for me with all maxed and every texture mod I could find (lol). It uses up to 920MB of texture memory like that though.

Are you running any mods blackhawk?

There's an .ini tweak than lets Oblivion use more RAM for pre-loading game data that is supposed to reduce choppy game play [see here].

In fact, it might be worth you having a look through the whole tweak guide if you haven't already as it does help quite a bit in my experience.

Highly-Annoyed

Its the draw distance mods that get you, not the texture mods.

I can do a flat and steady 60FPS with vsync on with everything but the draw distance mod.

Draw distance mod will cut your frames in 1/3.

well i use draw distance mods and i get 50 fps dunno y

but yeah the thing that usually makes oblivion choppy is when you are entering a new area as it has to load it all the pre-load function is a bit whack
