instability without artifacts?

Thread Starter
I overclocked my x1950pro (which has a reputation for being a bad overclocker) from 575/690 to 621/810 I get no artifacts at all, and no heat problems, but when I play games I do notice a bit of choppyness when I play games, my temps never get over 53c under load. Is choppyness in games a sign of an iunstable overclock?

yer I had that problem before i turned my gfx card fan up. I know in my case it was heat but in your case i think it may be bandwidth. Your chipset probably cant handle that much happening at once. If not you could be setting yourself up for wall erosion of the electron circuitways which results in jumping electrons, also know as a short circuit.

Also check your RAMDACs temps. (the 4-8 little chips that are square shaped and placed around the GPU). They are also essential to performance. If they are too hot then there is the problem. Solution is to purchase BGA Heatsinks. They usually come in packs of 8. Swiftech makes one of the best.

hmm, so you think I should lower the overclock a bit?

I turned it down to 600/710 I'm gonna see if I see a difference.

EDIT: damn, what a difference, I'm guessin the memory was way too high. I'm leavin it at here for now, considering all I really play is cs:s and I don't need much more outa my card then that.

YEA, THATS THE TICKET. It must be bandwidth.

This is a challlenging problem.
More info from poster might allow us to nail the
poblem instead of wild guesses.

what what what?

More info? uhh, well when I had it overclocked a tad higher I would noticed that turning down a long corridor example: long A in dust2, It would get a tad choppy, and my rates are fine so now I don't seem to have a problem ever since I lowered my memory clock a bunch.
