Asus P5B board, won't see SATA drives

Thread Starter
I recently tried upgrading my system using a new Asus P5b board. Got everything in, and the board will not detect either of my SATA drives. Tried all the Sata ports on the board, changed a couple of settings in the BIOS, didn't matter.

One thing I wondered is if there could be an issue since I have 1.5gb/s drives and the controller is 3.0gb/s. I spoke with Asus tech support and they said those drives should work... They want me to RMA the board, but I'm curious if there might be something else to it.

Anybody run into issues like this?

Thanks

Correct, the SATA 1.5 drives will work with a SATA 3 controller. It sounds like there are other issues at play here. Heve you reset the bios by performing a CLR CMOS?

It should work I had 1.5 gigs sata and it worked fine. I had 3 gigs that I forgot to take out the jumpers to make them 3gigs and they were running 1.5gigs.

Thanks guys.

I do not have any 3.0 drives to try, and to be honest I don't plan on upgrading my 1.5 drives so i want to get these to work.

I didn't think of clearing the cmos.

There is not special way of connecting sata drives correct? I just plugged them in and expected the board to find them. I tried all 4 sata ports, bios never found them, and when I did an f8 at boot to see available drives they didn't show up either.

Nope plug and play... As long as your sata controller was enabled in the bios.

Make sure that you see them in your bios.
Main>SATA Config>[Enhanced]
config sata as [IDE] not raid just to make sure

That is how it was set, but neither of the sata drives showed up. Maybe it is just a defective board as Asus tech suggested...
