PSU Watt Requirement Question

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I have to buy a new power supply for the computer I'm building. This is the one I'm looking at:

Rosewill 600watt, ATX12V 2.01 65$ on newegg

I was wondering if 600 watts is enough to power the following hardware from my computer built around 2 years ago. The motherboard, and RAM are both new...

-evga A1 680i motherboard w/ a small fan on the northbridge heatsink
-Intel E6700 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo (I will probably overclock to 3.0GHz-3.2GHz)
-4x120mm fans, 1x200mm fan (w/ blue LED)
-1x Radeon X1900XT 512MB DDR3
-1x 250GB Hard Drive
-1x Toshiba DVD Drive
-2 GB (2x1024MB) Crucial Ballistix Memory
-Antec 900 case (if it matters)

I was using my old 500watt ATX power supply w/ a 4pin cpu connection. It would start up, then immediately shut down about 12 seconds into start up. I unplugged the fans and it got about 20 seconds into start up, then shut down. I'm thinking its because it had a 4pin cpu connector and couldn't keep power to the cpu.

Do you guys think 600watts w/ an 8pin cpu connection would be sufficient for this hardware? How many watts would this hardware be using? 400-500 range im guessing.

thanks!

That seems like it will be a good pick. I have a Rosewill 600watt in my gaming computer and it gives out perfect voltage.

You can check out a psu calculator here: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

Try this calculator. Add a bit of extra room on top.

-evga A1 680i motherboard = 75w
-Intel E6700 = 100w
-4x120mm fans, 1x200mm fan = 20w
-1x Radeon X1900XT 512MB DDR3 = 130w
-1x 250GB Hard Drive = 10w
-1x Toshiba DVD Drive = 30w
-2 GB (2x1024MB) Crucial Ballistix Memory = 15w

Your system will need less than 400w under load, so a 600w PSU is fine. Rosewill PSUs are not top tier but should be adequate in your case.
