Lol nice Mark.

I shall be getting one of these beasts soon after their release as well.

Or possibly looking at the 9800GTX.

How is that? Its a dual GPU card and it cannot beat a single Ultra in game tests. HardOCP said the Ultra was faster and now the new MAXIMUM PC said the same thing.

The 9600GT was suppose to be a midrange card too but look at what 64 sp's do for the G94 core. Double the shader count and the GPU count and this card is what you get and it should be a beast.

sad day. they couldn't even have a working card in a system, not even official specs. what did they display? a shell of a "video card"? AMD might of well joined in an displayed a HD 5xxx series.

Surely you don't mean the HardOCP review from January?

Maybe you should look again.

Keep in mind that the HD3870X2 is $450, not $700 like the Ultra, which is pretty hard to find to being with.

I don't understand how that is supposed to cool anything. I don't see vents near the DVI ports.

I don't know why people dog this gpu so much. First of all, even if it performs the exact same as my two G92 GTS' then it is still an awesome card. Why, because my two can beat one 3870x2, so obviously this single card will do the same.

Second, I think people are completely overdoing the whole heat issue, with a new case fan I put up front, my two now idle below 40C. Sure, there are two of them, but the cooling apparatus looks a lot more aggressive, I would laugh though if they made it blow hot air in the case.

Third, even if you still had to enable sli with this card, whoopity doo, you hit a button once, no big deal.

All I can say is good job to ati for being number one for less than $500, I am more interested in the next generation from both companies though that doesn't require two gpus.

agreed..

though, i think the era of single core GPU's may be approaching its end.. just like the CPU moved onto dual cores

Wait....If you have to enable SLi how would this run on Intel chipset?

Is this a nVIDIA only?

The only results we have are in another thread where with default clocks on the card and a q6600 put it at 14,4xx marks. I done a bench at default clocks on my hd3870x2 and an e8400 and got 14,533. Not looking good for the green team on dual pcb is all I can say. Not only that the article mentions it doesn't overclock any count at all. I was really looking forward to some really nice scores with that card. I hope gaming holds up to be a diffrent story for it however.
