Windows XP SP2 Retail... $269.00!!!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837116195

LOL

My new reason for going with Vista. ...and I thought I would never say this...

VISTA IS CHEAPER THAN XP!!!

LOL!

Honestly who cares whether its OEM. Its still the "main" product in every way but licensing which makes extremely little difference and relavance as an OS.

I like Vista, been using it since Longhorn and now it's become a nice stable OS I use daily.
Going back to XP (at school), I miss a lot of the features. Namely the instant search and the window thumbnail preview.
And XP looks so goofy with that default Fisher Price theme =P

Have it on a laptop. Its slow bloated and expensive.Pretty sad when SP1 cant even fix it.Get by with XP 64 to increase my memory to 8 gb.When I upgrade.Waiting for Windows 7.

lmao wow thats so expensive, its probably a scam. They say that OEM versions are tied to a single computer and that you have to keep the original hard drive to install it again lmao. Those guys are idiots. I have a vista OEM and its on both my dads and my computer.

DigitalPhreak... It's upgrade we're talking about... If you're buying the upgrade version, chances are that you already have XP...

And why, exactly, are we comparing XP FULL RETAIL to vista UPGRADE? XP upgrade is $200, while vista upgrade is $260. And if you really wanted to compare retail, XP full retail is $270, while vista full retail is $400 $320... (if you want to use newegg's pricing, although that isn't the general price)

Someone who upgrades their computer and wants to save money cares whether it's OEM or full...

Anyway, back to the MAIN topic:

What significant advantage does vista have over XP? Or 2000?

Edit: Maybe I'm sending off the wrong message. Let me clarify a little bit: I used vista, and I liked it on my other rig which ran it decently. It was a good OS, m$'s best yet. I also used it on my dad's compaq with an A64 2.4GHz and 512MB of RAM. It sucked. So like I said, as long as you got a decent computer to run it, vista would be fine.

Overall: I liked vista. I did. It was good. My question right now, though is what makes it so good that it's worth a $200 upgrade? I don't hate vista; I'm just asking what makes it worth the money to upgrade from XP. Not liking vista and not thinking it's worth the money are two WAY DIFFERENT ideas.

If I were to build a new computer and were in need of an OS, I would get vista. But I have XP and it does everything vista can. So try not to think of my question as an attack against vista.

Actually, the OEM key is tied to the motherboard. If you have vista OEM on both your dad's computer and your own active at the same time, congratulations. You are a pirate and are under direct violation of Overclock.net's ToS for discussion of piracy.

Upgrade, Retail, OEM. Just words to me other than OEM = cheap.

So what, if in 2 1/2 or three years (If ever before the next OS) I might have to pay an astounding 99 bucks for another copy if its gonna save me a boat load now. Hell.. by then windows 7 might be out and I would have to spend that anyway to get the new stuff.

The answer is simple. Vista is and will continue to be superior to XP-allow-any-malware-to-rape-my-innards-at-any-given-moment-without-warning-without-lube-or-the-common-courtesy-of-a-reach-around-CRAP-OS.

On my PC I dual boot XP and Vista. I like Vista, but I use XP more because my computer is somewhat outdated, and XP runs my games a bit faster.

Alright, I quit. No one can reasonably answer my question. If anyone wants to have a decent discussion with me about what significant advantages vista has over XP without going off topic and talking about the 20985204 versions and the prices of them, I'm willing to talk with you.
