Possible new thinkpad...will she fly?

Thinking of purchasing a new Thinkpad in the near future. The 32mb Radeon 7500 just ain't cuttin it for me, too many artifacts to enjoy CS:S. Good framerates otherwise...but still...

System Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T8300 (2.4GHz 800MHz 3MBL2)
Operating System: Genuine Windows XP Professional
Display Panel: 15.4 WXGA TFT
System graphics: Intel GMA X3100 GM965
Total memory: 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
Pointing Device: UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
Hard Drive: 100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Intel® Turbo Memory hard drive cache: Intel Turbo Memory 1GB
Optical device: CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24X/24X/24X/8X Max, Ultrabay Slim
System expansion slots: PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot
Card Reader: 4 in 1 Media Card Reader
Wireless cards: ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ

Now I'm gunna go ahead and assume that configuration will fly through CS:S and other HL2 based games (right?)...but how would it hold up against current gen games? Mainly I would be looking at COD4, C&C3, StarCraft 2.......oh, and Crysis at maxed settings

I can't tell if your joking at crysis at max settings....because if you are you won't even make low settings with that laptop. Integrated will struggle to play most of the games you listed at acceptable graphics and frame rates. Its a good processor but integrated graphics can't play games for ****. I would recommend finding a laptop with a geforce card in it. If your looking for affordable, gateway released some nice FX P series with an 8800M which is very very good for gaming.

Yes I was kidding about crysis...Integrated graphics arn't the worst thing in the world from what I have seen in modern chipsets. My mothers onboard X200 for example can run CS:S at about 50FPS with settings turned down (the rest of that system is the bottleneck methinks). All I want to be able to do is play CS:S in naitive resolution without feeling the bite, with the ability to play BF2, C&C3, and maybe some other games with settings cranked down

I want to stick with Thinkpads because in my experience, everything else is just a Dell PC with a couple double A's stickin out the back. Poor construction with a crap battery. The system I listed came out to about 1400 which is well worth it for the level of quality I see in Thinkpads.

The other video option available is a nVidia Quadro 570 128mb dedicated. How would this compare?

Does anyone have the Intel X3100 and can vouch for the performance found in it?

You should actually have two options - the regular T/R series should have the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M available as well as the X3100, and the T61p can only use the Quadro FX 570M.
These are workstation graphics cards, and as such may not perform exactly as their gaming GeForce equivalents, even with modified drivers (FX 570M = 8600M GT, NVS 140M = 8400M GS).

The Quadro 570 is a nice GPU, but it is workstation-class. I would recommend a different brand if you want to game; take a look at the Asus F8sv or the F8sn. These are very different from the "Dell look-alikes" you see quite frequently.

Thats what i was trying to say, if you are looking for a GAMING laptop don't buy a laptop that doesn't meet the criteria. DEDICATED graphics is a MUST. There are plenty of other brands out their besides lenovo that make excellent laptops. off the top of my head gateway, asus, dell(which i gett he impression you don't like), and toshiba make very nice ones for the same price.
