The MSN PIC virus?

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
Hey guys im not really sure where this topic belongs but this is a PC problem so i guess PC games would fit.

My friend has a virus on his comp that sends messages to people saying "check out this pic. I think its horrible can you check it out for me" and "check out this pic of this girl who got ran over by a train i got it on my phone" and it sends the same virus to you.

I have searched for a solution on google and such but cant find an answer. He says that he tried AVG but that it didnt work. Hes not very good with computers so im looking for a failry clear explination although im sure i can explain it to him.

I would try uninstalling MSN, then downloading it and installing again.

Haha, I had this, the way I fixed it real easily was to just reinstall windows, oh and downloading and reinstalling msn will not work.

One solution to this worm is much easier and quicker than reinstalling your entire operateing system;

1. Got to Start -> Run and type MSCONFIG

2. Select the Startup tab and uncheck the box that has an unusual description by it.

3. Restart your computer and boot into safe mode.

4. Once in Safe Mode simply navigate to C:/My Documents/Messenger Received Files and delete all files in that directory.

Edit:

It would help if you could post a HijackThis log, or a screenshot of all your running processes if possible. There are many different types of the worm found on MSN.
