need help upgrading..

I am upgrading my pc and new a few tips on some items...

I am getting the DFI Lanparty DK, 2gb Corsair Ballistix, either a E6750 or E8400 if they come in stock soon, a small harddrive, and thats about it. I have a 7600GT pci express x16 card as well to use. I need a psu that will work with these, and i am looking for something relatively cheap. (sub $100.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I like Ballistix too, but I've been giving these Geil sticks a good, hard look. Well, I'm looking at the 2x2GB kit myself, but for the price, those Geil sticks look pretty damn hot.

As for the power supply, I'd probably go for the Corsair VX550w, although the Silverstone ST50-EF Plus and Seasonic S12 II 500ES are also below $100 on Newegg and are great units as well.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just wanted to say that on the PSU, doesn't it have to be different because its a dual core pc? Someone said the power connectors would be wrong. I have no idea about this so that was my main question.

The memory sticks are Crucial, not Corsair. Sorry. They are cheap (2gigs for $39 or something..) but I read that they are decent for OC anyway. I will look at the geil sticks though.

Also, The E6750 (2.66ghz) is 30$ cheaper than the E6600 (or whatever the 2.4ghz is..) Does anyone know of any reasons why?

And one more: What is the most memory I can install with XP Pro 32bit? 2gigs?

This PSU has plenty of power for your rig. It is latest PSU so should not has problem on connectors. New model cpu is always cheaper than old model. Company needs to promoto new products. If you have 32bit OS, 2GB is fine.

The E6600 is more expensive because it's an older chip that cost that much, and etailers aren't trying to lose money on them. The E6750 is the better chip, hands down.

The most memory that Windows XP 32-bit can recognize is around 3.2-3.7GB. So if you do get 4GB you're losing out on a little bit of RAM, but not enough for me to say that it would be better to get 2x1GB and 2x512MB instead. Better to have it and not be able to use it in case you upgrade to a 64-bit OS later than spend maybe $15 less and have no upgrade options except to get rig of the 2x512MB sticks.

Crucial ballistix are good overclockers. My first choice memory for a new build (unless I go with 2x2gb)

the e6750 was cheaper for intel to make, and the etailers are hoping that people with a 1066mhz max fsb buy the e6600s so they don't lose money on em.

The E6600 is also more expensive because of the higher multi (not saying that's the main reason), example:

E6750 400FSB with x8 multi = 3.2Ghz
E6600 400FSB with x9 multi = 3.6Ghz

However, I would certainly go with the E8400.

If it doesn't, take one stick out, boot to Windows and get the fix for it, and then turn the computer off and put the other stick back in. Or you could just slipstream a disc on your current machine with the hotfix and avoid that altogether (as well as the rest of the updates).
