Comp won't boot after using Clockgen

Hey all, i really hope you can help me here.

I've pressed my luck far too much with overclocking. I've gotten out of similar pickles before, but this is different.

I'll go through what happened step by step.

I wanted to do a clean driver update and optimize the performance of my computer for the little while longer I have it until I get a new one.

AMD Athlon X2 3800+ OC'd somewhere between 2.25ghz - 2.35ghz using Clock Gen.
2 x 512mb Kingston HyperX PC3200 (400mhz) DDR2
1 x 512 Viking PC2100 266mhz ddr2.

I know, mixing ram is a bad thing, but as long as you don't "Seriously" overclock, it's not too bad, at least it wasn't for me.

I've overclocked the cpu in BIOS to 2.39 before with it running okay, but a litte unstable. No way did I OC it to that point with clock gen.

So I reinstalled Nvidia drivers (uninstalling old ones, first) reinstalled (it turned out to be) same driver version. Got a program, I forget what it's called now. Starts with an R - it's similar to nTune. I overclocked the 7900GS to a little bit, but I know that's no tthe problem.

After that, I OC'd using clockgen from stock (2.0ghz) to like I said earlier: 2.25-35ghz

Applied, and seemed to go through fine. Well I was converting some wma files to .mp3, and then was trying to open AIM, and it would start and then shut off as soon as the buddy list opened, which i thought was weird - figured it was memory/cpu related. Figured a reboot would fix it. I was then called into a clan match on counter-strike source, and steam would not start - would give me some crash error before starting.

At this point I told my mates I'd be right back, and rebooted. Big mistake. My computer is now stuck in a loop from startup to right before windows loading screen. It takes me to the option menu during boot: Where you can choose boot normally, safe mode, safe mode with networking, cmd, e.t.c.. I tried every one. Even last working configuration. All just reboot computer. Have access to BIOS, but doesn't do me anygood, as clockgen is OC'ing the cpu during windows boot, not in hardware.

Is there anything I can do? Any way to disable a startup program during boot, e.t.c.? I have the option to do an XP repair and have access to system recovery console (where I can access root directory of windows folders, use fixboot or fixmbr), but I don't think that'll do me a lot of good.

So my RAM is all at 266mhz. I tried lowering my memory speed and also tried every HT multiplier between 1 and 5.

I should've thought of the separation of windows and bios before using clockgen...

Any help would be grateful, I've been searching the internet and trying to figure this out for the past 5 hours.

Thank you,
-Jake

hmm that is wired... Have you tried uninstalling clockgen in safemode? If you did try to disable all startup programs in safemode i know you can do it in control panel but i forgot.

Welcome to Overclock.net !
Your question is a good one, you need to reset the CMOS:

Turn off machine.
Turn off power supply, Unplug power supply.
Switch CMOS jumper on motherboard, pull battery out for 5 minutes.
Install battery, put CMOS jumper back to default posts.
Replug power supply. Turn on.

In bios: Load Optimized defaults (enter and save).
Start bios from scratch again.

BTW: We don't know what hardware you have, so click on the "UserCP" tab on top of screen page, click on "Edit System",,, and fill in the blanks. Your system specs. will always show below all your posts so we can troubleshoot you probl;ems better.

peace, gL

Went in BIOS, did fail-safe defaults, also did jumper CMOS reset. Nothing. But the problem isn't BIOS related in the first place.

Ziox, Safe mode will not work either. It reboots computer instantly as well. Because clockgen edited the registry in a way to be one of the first programs to start when windows loads, I'm guessing - even in Safe Mode. Unless it corrupted windows boot.

... I will never use an OS based overclocker again.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Windows repair or reinstall, as it should boot to safe mode if the os wasnt corrupt, as clockgen wouldnt be loaded in safe mode.

would fixboot or fixmbr do me anygood? Or will I have to do Xp repair install. If I have to do XP Repair install, how much of a chance is there that I'll lose all my harddrive data? I trust computers too much and have far too much school information on there to lose...

... I could potentially plug my sata hdd in my brother's computer here and hook it up as a slave and access the files on it without needing to boot windows, correct? - That's worst case scenario.

I would back up your data and just reformat. It sounds like something at a very low level is tanked.
