Thanks a lot for the help guys...

Alright, well... Options are:

1)XP Repair install on xp partition of hdd: Yes my most important files are actually on this partition - word and .txt files for school. Unrelated to Windows folder and registry, though. Music is secondary, and is also on this partition.

2)Attempt to plug harddrive in my brother's computer and grab the data off of it. If not directly, indirectly with Testdisk or a similar program. Need his permission before I go fumbling around in his tower... After all, i just screwed my computer.

3)Figure out SOME way to transfer via dos/console/LiveCD/Bootdisk files from the xp partition to the other partition.

4)Put my 80GIG IDE in, install windows on it... ....and? Transfer files from old xp partition on my main hdd to it? + this will help figure out whether it's certainly a software problem or not.

5)I can keep looking for a good LiveCD program. Winternals ERD Commander 2005 is the best so far, but it freezes still and will NOT establish a network connection with my brother's pc for some reason. Otherwise, i could just transfer directly. In any case, any other suggestions as far as boot-cd programs are concerned?

Any other options?

Yes, I'm really disappointed in myself for not realizing - would something go wrong with clockgen, I couldn't really do anything about it if my computer doesn't boot to windows. I was just experiementing around...

Again, you guys have been great - thanks

I'd be surprised... I'd figure the poison would poison me instead of making me choke to death.

Alright, guys. I've figured out a way to transfer files from the XP partition to the other.

I need some confirmations on these theories:

1) If I do format, i can choose which partition to format. Thus not affecting the other partition. Correct?
2) If i do XP Repair install on the old XP partition, it will not affect the other partition, which has all my backed up files. Correct?

Thanks alot, almost there, i think. Not exactly what I wanted - was a reformat, but hey...I can't take not being able to do any 2d/3d art, writing, gaming, accessing my music, or accessing any of my vital school documents much longer...

just read over the thread again and i run 2.50ghz using orthos 9.5 hours straight and ran fine on my x2 3800+. Stock cooling, 2 80mm fans front and back, and a cheap 350 psu that came with my case.

To answer your question i do believe that the XP repair will keep your current files and replace the ones are corrupt/missing.

Most poisons make you choke while almost vomiting your own insides.

That doesn't seem like a very nice way to die...
